Course Curriculum Overview

3

The MBBS curriculum has changed for the year 2019 onwards, it now follows the CBME curriculum, which is competency-based medical education. This curriculum is highly efficient and effective in creating competitive and strict rules that will allow the medical student to be ready to do what he/she is required to do. The curriculum is based on repeated examinations and tests for the student which do place a huge burden but considering the long run. The main exams occur at the end of each academic year, which will detemrine the eligibilty to advance into the next year. The exams are made so that only those which have the required knowledge and competency can pass the year and those who do not are required to write the 'save the year' exam which appears after 1 month after the publishment of the result. If they pass, they can join their peers. If they fail they have to wait for 1 year so that they can write their exams with their juniors. A medical student can only write their exams 4 times, upon failing all of them - they are labelled as 'course out ' that is, they cannot continue this course anymore.

Internships Opportunities

3

The internship is mandatory for mbbs students and they are required to complete 365 days of working in the hospital , for which they are ready to appear in the society aa a professional doctor . The stipend amount for an intern is rupees 12,500 for each month which is quite low for the work we are doing

Fees and Financial Aid

The total amount of fees for an academic year for a normal seat will surmount upto 8,91,278 which excludes the examination fees for the university which is an extra 3500. The course fee is around 7 lac 25000 the hostel fees around 1lac 10000 and the rest of the fees are special fees for facilitations. There is an extra 1000/1500 for union fees depending on the year. The fees for NRI seat is around 20 lacs which includes hostel fees and special fees. They also have to pay to appear in university examinations

Campus Life

2

The campus life in this college is quite lacking due to restrictions of times in hostels which are 6o clock for girls and 7 for boys. There are festivals every year which are arts day , sports day , interbatch sports and athletics, convocation, ethnic day, onam. The classrooms are not upto the mark. The use of devices is restricted, there is no air conditioning, the attendance is taken manually which shows an incomplete side of the college The sports and extracurricular activities are dependent on the person and the passion, the college does not provide any support. The students do what they do by themselves for themselves There are adequate clubs like movie clubs and drama clubs which are good stress Busters in our stressful lives

Hostel Facilities

3

There are 3 people in one room and is quite spacious . There are seperate storage spaces, tables, beda and cupboards for each and everyone and a bathroom in everyroom The menu is quite good and changes every year , but the quality of the meals are very poor and are sometimes unpalatable The hostels are mandatory for the first year , and are allotted at the time of admissions There are adequate pgs and rooms for rents , but considering the money this is more practical

Admission

I applied to believers church medical college, Mes Medical College and this college. I had only applied in the mop-up round as I was not planning to join any college this year. The allotment process is determined on ranks, as people with more marks than me applied to the same colleges with little as 2 seats left in most they got the seats The admission process for me was rapid. I acquired the required marks in the NEET exam. I applied for the mop up round, got alloted to this college. Came the next day on dec 17,2022 to take the admission on a Saturday. So that I could attend classes from Monday. The admission process in the college is simple.

Faculty

4

Teh faculty to student ratio varies according to departments . For example in departments which deals with first and second years are adequately staffed and are very easy to approach . They create an atmosphere that makes us comfortable and at ease while talking to them . The teachers in pathology are friendly to the point that we don't have to worry or get scared while meeting them at all. They always help us in dealing with our academic and life .while the departments that deal with the 3rd and 4th years are mainly located in the hospital , they are not easily approachable and do not have time for the students . They are mostly understaffed and are disconnected for the college most of the time . In the time course of my second year I had appeared for many exams , there are three main exams - 2 sessionals and 1 model. The sessional exams are for 200 marks- 100 marks theory ,100 marks practical most of the students pass the practical exams , but only a handful of them pass in theory . The model exams are in 300 marks as they have 2 papers for each subject - 200 MARKS theory and 100 marks practical . As this exam is towards the end of the year and determines the eligibilty for appearing in university examinations , almost all of the students pass this exam There will be a formative assessment on every Saturday in a month excluding the second Saturday , which is included in the internal marks . The course curriculum is really important as only those that adhere to the curriculum can appear in the exams

Night Life

1

The nightlife in the college is non-existent as the students are not allowed to go out after their designated timings . Girls - 6o clock Boys - 7 o clock However for boys we can go home or other places by faking to go home at night , but for girls after 6 they are not allowed to step foot outside the hostel . Which is hut using a grill

Even though a bit tight and rushy, this is in fact the best curriculum provided and followed by all medical colleges in kerala. The frequency of exam is high and difficulty level is as same as that of KUHS. This provides relevant experience for the students to weite the university exams

Course Curriculum Overview:

It's always relevant to the content being taught by the teachers. They always use application based questions to prepare us for a real life situation as well. First aid training was also completed. Some of the teachers are very interactive while some not. Short exams are conducted on a weekly basis while internal exams are conducted every 2/3 months. Not that difficult but it isn't that easy either. Very strict checking, nothing is liberal.
