What Students Say?

- The aspects of my college which I really love are the quite peaceful environment and a varied peer pool. The faculty members have all done commendable work in their feilds and are always ready to help and guide.
- Campus life is really fun and informative as at any given time there is one event or another taking place on campus. Festival celebrations, parties and many other fests and competitions. Apart from this we have multiple societies and clubs to join.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is a bit outdated and can be modified.
- The fact that the college campus is open to civilians makes the campus a bit noisy and chaotic at times.
Course Curriculum Overview
The aspects of the course which stood out to me were the in depth study of english literature and philosophy, multiple gateways which it opened for me and the flexibility which it provides. The curriculum prepares us for any job or further education demands. Exams are held twice a semester and four times a year. The exams are difficult as they require in depth study of the course material.
Internships Opportunities
The earn while study programm let's students work in multiple college offices like the central library, college office and other departments and gives them a stipend as well. It gives students the experience of the inner workings of the university.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements from 5th semester onwards. Most students don't opt to work but rather go for a master's degree. The average packages offered are of around 9,00,000 per annum and the highest packages go up to around 15,00,000 per annum. About 5% students opt for campus placements. My plans after getting the degree is to get an LLB to pursue a career in Law.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is same for all students except those who opted for a paid seat (it means you can pay extra fees to get a seat at a lower CUET score). The fees for regular seat is around 5000 annually and it includes all other compulsory charges. At the time of addmision students have to pay a 1600 admission fee. The paid seat students pay 20000 thousand in fees annually.
Campus Life
The annual IIT BHU fest Kashiyatra is the biggest fest held on campus and it takes place in January. Apart from this multiple annual programs like the foundation day parade, dandiya night, freshers, holi parties ect. The central library has over 50000 books in it on any topic which one wishes to seek. Apart from this it has separate sections for research papers and journals. The cyber library provides computers and Wi-fi which can be used to access multiple resources. The BHU wifi also provides students with free access to sites like JSTOR. There are multiple sports grounds, indoor gyms, jungle gyms and sports complexs where all sports ranging from basketball to swimming.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms and mess are really good. The annual hostel fees is 6000 and mess fees is 4000 per month. The rooms are shared by two students and a bed, chair, cupboard and table are provided. The rooms are quite spacious and have good ventilation. The mess food is tasty and nutritious. We get four meas a day and as many servings as we want.
Admission
I didn't apply to any other colleges as I wanted to go to BHU only. The admission process is quite simple for my course. All one has to do is fill the CUET UG form for English and General Test papers, choose BHU as a college to which you want to apply to, give the exam, after the results are declared make a profile on the BHU counselling portal, choose your course and fill the form for it. The seats are alloted in 5 rounds. Cut off for my course is quite high at around 250/350.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is about 1:40. Students have to work to build a relationship with the professors and reach out to them in their free time. The English faculty is excellent as not only do they teach the syllabus really well but also guide us about our extra projects. Exams are difficult and often hectic because of the rushed schedules. About 2% students fail. The coursework is demanding but relevant with the current NEP.
Night Life
There are multiple markets and cafes on each side of the campus. The hostel gates are shut for girls at 10 pm. Most students hang out at cafes like capsicum, Lanka market, Assi ghat and Hyderabad gate market. The locality is safe to roam around and often students do night outs by getting hostel leaves.
