Course Curriculum Overview

3

Economics is an emerging subject , hence i decided to choose this course. As this college provides BS-Economics , therefore i decided to take it. this curriculum also prepares for real-world applications, mainly in the subject, a student has to read real-world based data. The frequency of exams are similar to that of BS-MS student and timings of exams are released a week before the exams.

Placement Experience

5

For BS-Economics students, institute provides placement oppurtunities. Median package for BS-ECO students for UG-4 years if 17.5 lacs per annum. But only a handful of 10-15 students are able to grab campus-placement oppurtunites and rest all prepare for other competitive exams or go for off-campus placements. The highest package offered for this degree is 34 lacs per annum . companies like delloite, nomura, barclays etc. come to this institute for placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

The Tuition fee for BS-Economics student for the first semester is Rs 36700. Also, for the first semester, a student has to pay one time fee of Rs 15000. Hostel and other campus amenities(user charge) charge for Rs 6700 and Rs 9700 for one semester. Therefore for the first semester, a student has to pay Rs 68100 (For general and OBC/OBC-NCL). The institue provides full tuition fee waiver for SC/ST students. Every year, tuition fees may increase by Rs 1000. All batches do not have same tuition fee structure and vary batch-wise. The institute also provides many scholarships for financially unstable students. One of them is DST-INSPIRE Scholarship which a student can avail if he/she remains in the top 1% in his 12th respective Boards. Only BS-MS(Natural- Sciences) student can avail this scholarship. No BS-Eng. or BS-Eco student can access this scholarship. Also, this scholarship is only given to freshers and no dropper can take this scholarship. One more scholarship is Shraman Scholarship . A student who has his family income less than Rs 2,50,000 is eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship provides financial aid of Rs 25000 per year. The meal quality is average to best, and the menu is decided by the mess commitee which is run by the student body itself, therefore if students have complaints, the committee can impose fine on the mess. The registration for hostel is done alongwith the counselling . No separate work is done for hostel and the fees for both hostel and mess use is as less as 6700 which is to be paid alongwith the tuition fee at the starting of the semester. All students are mandatory to live in hostel. One cannot rent a room outside the campus and become a day-scholar, he/she has to be hosteller to study in this college.

Admission

I decided to choose BS-Economics for my degree. This college was among the few national govt. colleges which provides this degree. Also , among all national research institutes, this college provides this degree. IISER Bhopal takes students from 3 different exams : i)JEE-Advanced , ii)IAT(IISER Aptitute Test), iii)KVPY A student who qualifies JEE Advance is eligible for IISER Bhopal. Aso, a student who qualifies IAT is eligible for IISER Bhopal. KVPY stream is now stopped , hence a student cannot come through his method. A student who qualifies JEE Advance can come by JOSAA counselling and the one wo qualified IAT has its own counselling later and can fill the preference for IISERs.

Faculty

4

For the first year, there is batch size of approximately 400 students. So, the student to teacher interaction becomes very low. The faculties are available in their respective rooms, so a student can directly contact and meet them. But also, 7-8 Teaching Assistants are provided which make the work easier and solve the doubts if their is a rush and tutorials are taken by them for the problem solving. A semester has 4 exams , namely 2 quizzes , 1 mid-semester exam and 1 end-semester exam. Mid-semester recess is provided for 1 week. The weightage of these exams are decided by the instructor during the course.

Night Life

4

IISER Bhopal has a unisex gymnasium in the crescent building, and a separate females-only gymnasium . For hanging out, there is IDEATION HUT, which is in the centre of hostel area , thereby all students can access it easily. Also there is a 3-floor libraby in which the first two floors contains book and study materials, one can issue them easily with his/her ID-card. The third floor is generally the E-Library which contains computers for Labs, or for soft materials. ALongside the library, there is Computer Centre which is also a part of the library. NEarby that , There is CCD(Cafe coffee day), where one can chill with his/her friends. The campus is full of greenery and is very secure to roam at night, infact the night-life of campus is very great.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum is very research driven, and it is very flexible too. Course is as per the New Education Policy and is relevant to modern industrial needs. However the Curriculum is all around Pure Sciences, like the B.Sc but just the college is much better than a normal BSc college. First two year is given to students to get along with subjects that they want to study in future, in the third year they choose their Majors. Quizzes are frequent and occurs biweekly, while Exams occurs every month and so.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum trains students in various research fields, including lab and theory. The course prepares a student to get either a industry position, or PhD position. The course curriculum can be improved by porividing more exposure to students who havent experienced, these fields. Exams are good, easy if youve understood the course content. These exams are based on a wide information of the topic, and are not limited to just one textbook.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since I am just in my first year right now, the courses I have are fairly introductory. But since we have to study PCMB, Earth Science, Programming and a Humanities course just in the first year, it's fairly hard to manage. we have 2 quizzes, a mid sem exam and an end sem exam in each semester typically at the end of each consecutive month (4 month semester). The marking scheme, syllabus, paper pattern, time, difficulty etc are all subject to change according to the professor.

Placement Experience:

As it's a research institution, more emphasis is given to academia and research instead of placements. We have an active placement cell, but still, it's lackluster compared to engineering colleges. The average package hovers around 10 lpa, and only a handful of people get placements. Most opt for Phd or an MBA.

Mostly from 8th semester onwards students become eligible for sitting in placements and getting preplacement offers in their applied companies. Companies like nomura Bank ,Barclays and Dr Reddy's lab have visited the campus in the past. Mostly all the students get placed because less number of student sitting for the placements. According to last year data around 31 lakhs per annum was the highest package and the average was around 10 lakhs per annum. My plan is to get into a foreign university for my higher studies.

But regardless the knowledge and experience gained here by people help them apply for any organisation off campus
