What Students Say
Likes
- The courses offered here are very broad and vast enough to complete all the competitive exam syllabus, you need not purchase any other course for your GATE or other engineering exam preparation, these courses are enough
- The campus is almost about 1400 acres. So it consists of everything you need in your day to day life, groceries, food stalls, sports kit shop, mobile and laptop repair shop, barber shop,ATMs,cycle repair shop and much more
- The faculties here in my mechanical engineering branch are like God gifted.they are too good in all aspects, friendly behaviour, excellent teaching, approachable
Dislikes
- The zonal game played over here is the worst part. You can't get anything if you don't get support from your zone. They have divided the entire campus into various zones like north zone, UP zone,Bihar zone, South zone etc etc
- There are other branches like EE and CS where the professors are totally mad, friends of mine have stated they feel like curse studying under them
- The mess food , it can be a lot improved, although it's good compared to other colleges, still it's oily, too much deep fried, sometimes raw
Course Curriculum Overview
As I mentioned earlier the best aspect of this curriculum is that you need not lift extra time for your competitive exam preparation, if you pay attention in classes and follow the course curriculum and the recommended books, that itself is self sufficient to get you through any exam.so very well does the curriculum prepares us for real-world applications and further academic pursuits. We have a semester of 3 months.(90days) In 45 days span we have midsem and endsem
Internships Opportunities
When you enter third year there are many companies visiting the campus for hiring interns out there. For mechanical engineering branch there were companies like Bajaj, Tata, Exon Mobil, ABinBev, Licious, who were providing the roles of research assistant and providing stipend of 30k - 35k per month
Fees and Financial Aid
The overall fees keeps fluctuating a bit depending on the hostel and mess fees. The tuition fees is constant For family which has annual income above 5lpa, the tuition fees is 67000/- For family which has annual income below 5lpa and more than 1 lpa, the tuition fees is 22333/- For family which has annual income below 1 lpa, the tuition fees is zero The hostel fees and mess fees combined is 30-33k around per semester , Also a hall maintenance fee of 2000, examination fees of 2000 and medical fee of 2000 is paid per semester ..
Campus Life
There are four, NITRUTSAV ( the literary and cultural fest) , INNOVISION ( technology fest), VRIDHHI( sports fest) and COSMO( film and music fest) There are various clubs like cricket club ,chess club, badminton club, music club, dance club, tech clubs, literary clubs All of them have orientation program and induction program.
Hostel Facilities
The room is meant for 2 persons. It has 2 beds, 2 lan portals, 2 study tables and 2 desks attached to the walls and a fan . The menu has enormous variety in it with non veg provided 6 days a week. Meal quality is ok ok types, I will rate it average coz of too much oil . You have to pay hostel fees if you want to stay in hostel.
Admission
I had a good jee rank, which would have fetched me any seat in any college. I prefered this because it lies in my hometown rourkela and also the mechanical engineering branch of NIT Rourkela is the best over all India , even better then the IITs present there. So I chose this branch and college. Admission process is via JOSAA through the JEE exam, you need to clear jee exam and have a decent percentile ( above 96% atleast) to secure a seat over here
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio in mechanical engineering is 31:1 currently. The faculties here are too much friendly and approachable as I mentioned earlier. I like all of them, like you will never feel the pressure of studying here, you will be taken utmost care of here. Before the exams we will be be provided questions to practice and the exam questions will consist of questions similar to that, so it's too much beneficial. There are 2 exams in each semester, mid semester of 30 marks and end semester of 50 marks. They are somewhat easy-to-follow if you keep paying attention in class through and follow the tutor. Almost all of the questions to be asked in exam has already been discussed by tutors in class..so that becomes easy while exam
