Likes
- Campus Culture and Social Life : IIT PATNA offers a diverse campus culture , e.g. this year students from 27 states came to IIT PATNA for their academics, but being a new IIT it is still evolving to give more exposure.
- Faculty and Mentorship: The professors of IIT PATNA are highly experienced and qualified,(some are included in top 2% scientist in the world).
- Placement and Carrier Opportunities: In year 2022, the average package of IIT PATNA was 20lpa , in which CSE avg was 38lpa and mechanical avg was 18lpa . But due to recession it's placement is bit decreased.
Dislikes
- Strict Rules and Regulations: After 10 PM, it is not allowed to go out of the hostel (for both boys and girls).
- Large Campus Area: You need to have a bicycle here to roaming in the college although free bus service is there but it is often much crowded.
- Most common issue with IITs is gender ratio, but IIT PATNA has a decent gender ratio , still it needs improvement.
Course Curriculum Overview
I would rate the course curriculum at IIT PATNA as 8/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness. My reasons for choosing this course . It is structured to provide a strong foundation in core engineering. The curriculum covers essential subject in the first year and then allows the students to specialize in their respective fields through labs, project based courses. The exam level is moderate, one cannot pass the exam just in one night study, you have to give priority to study for the whole semester.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities at IIT PATNA are abundant and varied providing students with practical experience in their respective fields. For example Google: Software Developement Intern. Microsoft: Research Intern TCS: IT Analyst intern. And many more... Talking about Stipends: Google: INR 60K per month Amazon: INR 50K per month. Now coming to project and outcomes: Google: A student might work on a project involving the development of new features for Google product, such as enhancing algorithm for data processing. Placement Experience
From the 7th semester,the students become eligible for the campus placements. Recently Samsung company visited our college and hired some people. Last year(2023), the highest package offered was 82.05 lpa from Amazon. Some other top recruiters include Cognizant, Adobe, some consultant companies like Collegedunia,etc Last year then percentage for students getting placed was 98.65% (in CSE) Overall it was 85% . My plan is to clear the Gate entrance exam and pursue higher studies from top institutes.
Fees and Financial Aid
For a student admitted in the year 2024 at Indian institute of technology Patna in B.tech Course. The year wise fee breakdown is as follows: 1st year Tution fee: INR 66,666(after 2/3rd fee remission on INR 200000). Academic fee: INR 20000 Hostel fee: INR 16500 Institute Resources: INR 21500 Gymkhana: INR 10000 Mess fee: INR 36000 Other fee: 7000 Total fee: 177666 Similarly for 2nd year: Total fee: 144666 Similarly for 3rd year: Total fee: 144666 Similarly for 4th year : Total fee: 144666 Like other IITs , IIT PATNA offers fee remission on Academic fee for economically backward students For ( SC,ST, below 1 lakh family income): tuition fees is INR 0 . ( Which is INR 100000 for others.) For students with less than 5 lakh family income: 2/3 Rd tution fee is waived: INR 33000 per semester.
Campus Life
The Annual Cultural Fest and the biggest fest of IIT PATNA is Anwesha. It includes variety of performance, competitions and workshops, attracting students from all over the country.Many stars come to this event ( e.g. KK , Amit Trivedi and many more). Celesta, IIT Patna's annual tech fest, usually takes place in October. It features workshops, guest lecturers( this year Dr. Gajendra Purohit and Ashish Arora Sir(Physics Galaxy)) and robotics events, followed by DJ night and Concert (this year Mohammad Irfan's cocert) . IIT Patna's library is well equipped and offering a range of books, journals and research databases , you can know more on their website.
Admission
I applied to several other engineering colleges across India like : IIT Delhi - Biotechnology IIT Indore - Mechanical IIT BHU- Mechanical As my rank in JEE ADVANCED was not sufficient to get into these colleges Colleges I was getting Some IITs (IIT Indore,IIT DHANBAD) I was getting civil branch.. and in NITs like NIT Patna, Goa etc. I was getting CSE. But I have chosen IIT PATNA Mechanical Engineering branch .. The first reason was obviously the IIT branch which has a significant impact on placement, carreer, exposure,etc. IIT PATNA despite being newer compared to older IITs, has been quickly advancing in terms of faculty, facilities, reasearch infrastructure. The admission process is as follows: First of all you have to clear the Joint Entrance Exam (MAINS+ ADVANCED). Then, we have to participate in the JOSSA counselling and select the colleges according to your preference. Then after getting alloted a college you have to pay Seat Allocation fees. Then during physical reporting you have to go through various processes ( they will verify all your documents) including some monetary transactions ( college fees...etc.) All done.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is about 1:16 which is reasonable. The relationship between faculty and students is generally postive . Professors encourage students to ask questions whether related to course or career path . Some professor like Dr. Rishi Raj(Department of Mechanical Engineering): You can search about his educational degree from Google, he teaching style is very unique and professional. Similarly other professors like Arijit Mondal, Debabrath Seth. There is no such professors whom you dislike but there may be personal perspective about each faculty . (For me it's Maths) There are 2 main exams ( midsem and endsem) and two quiz exam in 10 days before midsem and endsem respectively for each subjects. And there is regular labs, tutorial evaluation and surprize quiz.
