- One of the foremost reasons I chose Government Engineering College Wayanad was its affordable fee structure
Dislikes
- Since my department is newly established, we face a shortage of essential facilities and lab equipment, which affects the quality of practical learning.
- The cold weather might be difficult for some students to adapt to, although it’s manageable for me personally.
- The absence of a train service in the area makes commuting difficult, especially for students who live far away from the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Civil and environmental engineering is one of the good courses nowadays, bcs it's mainly focusing on sustainability. Course curriculum is good and if u love mechanics and graphics, this is the best area for u. I suggest to include more CAD lessons since these days we use softwares more than drawings in papers.
Placement Experience
This college is not bad when talking about placements. So many students studied here got placed in decent companies. Placement options are not only based on college, u should have good grades, skills in subject and in communication, leadership, etc. there's a seperate placement cell in our college too.
Fees and Financial Aid
Government Engineering College Wayanad has been a great choice for me as a civil engineering student. I picked this college because the fees are affordable—just 9000 INR per year—and it’s close enough to my home, making the distance manageable with good transportation options. I stay in the college hostel, which costs me around 2.5k-3k INR per month, and it’s a comfortable and convenient place. The college has excellent facilities and supportive staff, and I appreciate that there’s no ragging, creating a safe and welcoming environment. Overall, the education and environment here are helping me grow into a better engineer.
Campus Life
Our college has around 1500 students and features a variety of active clubs, including IEEE, ISTE, G BOT, NSS, Dance Club, Drawing Club, Music Band, Automotive Club, Film Club, and a Space Club. We also host numerous events throughout the year, such as Arts Fest, Sports Day, Diwali Night, Christmas celebrations, Holi, Freshers Day, Halloween Party, Tech Fest, and Union Inauguration
Hostel Facilities
I got college hostel. Which has good facilities and affordable fees. In my room there's 2 double decker bed and accomodate 4 ppl. Some rooms are big and accomodate 8 ppl. In my room we've 4 table and chair for each one and has a good and decent shelves to store our stuffs. Our hostel tyming is 6 in the morning to 9:30 at night. College hostel is more secure and good in my opinion. The rent is 310 each month and mess fees will varry from 1.5k- 2.5k according to the several things. We've good facilities for bathroom and lavatory. And there's enough good space for laundry. There's 2 hostels for ladies and one men. Other students will have to look for private
Admission
I applied for government engineer college kannur and government engineering College Kozhikode other than here which is goverment engineering College Wayanad. And the options I given was only cse and Civil. And based on my rank and category I got here. And I had the option of changing college or course in spot admission. But I didn't want to by then. The admission criteria for a government engineering College in kerala is to have 75% marks in plus two and have enough marks for keam exam.
Faculty
Our college has highly experienced faculty members, many of whom have earned their M.Tech degrees from prestigious institutions. They are approachable and dedicated to teaching, with a focus on practical learning. The assignments and homework we receive are designed to encourage application-level understanding. Moreover, teachers often provide extra classes beyond the regular schedule to support our learning.
