- The events of the college were extremely vast that gave students a wider opportunity to be able to showcase talents.
- The campus of the college is quite refreshing to be in comparing it to the hot weather of Chennai.
- The college gives space to students to organise events and to learn how to manage important events like Deepwoods and respective department events.
Dislikes
- The management was often quite lagging and cancelled events in the last year of college due to issues in the student body.
- The procuring of halls or classrooms for any events were a hassle and it led to a lot of issues and procedures.
- The presence of more hall events when compared to other events for students who live outside the halls.
Course Curriculum Overview
The wide range of texts available in the curriculum urged me to choose this particular course in the college. Unlike most colleges, the course had a unique approach towards English literature that fascinated me. The curriculum prepared me for real world challenges quite well as it helped me communicate and to write better. The frequency of examinations are quite minimal with two internal exams and one semester exam each semester. The third internal exam will be an assignment out of which the best out of three will be taken for evaluation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year-wise fees included an approximate of 60000-70000 per year for Arts and Science courses. Commerce courses like BBA had a slightly higher fee structure but the college provides good placement offers through the placement cell. There are scholarships and financial aid that are given to students who are not able to afford the course.
Campus Life
The college provided good infrastructure and a platform to be able to grow holistically. Department events, Deepwoods, Hall events like Moonshadow, Dionysia, etc., gave a lot of exposure to students on how to organise events and be part of it actively. The library has a wide range of books and journals with the e-library providing subscription to JSTOR and other important websites that much needed for research. Sports, clubs such as NCC, NSS, and Scrub society are extremely active and they provide students with a platform to go out into the society and to do some kind of social work.
Admission
I applied to multiple colleges in Kerala and none of the course structure struck me as well as that of Madras Christian College's course. I was selected for a few colleges in Kerala but still went for this college as it had a better reputation and better course structure. The admission procedure was fairly simple when I had applied with a reviewing of marks and a small interview before the document verification. The system has changed slightly now which i am not fully aware of.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio would be around 1:6. Yet, the faculty of the college is extremely friendly and are willing to help students with what they need. Some of my favourite faculty members are Professor Samuel Moses and Professor Sandrella Betresa from the department of English Language and Literature SFS. Exams are fairly simple and the internal exams are quite tricky but helps in a holistic development of a student and it urges students to think got themselves and to be write better.
