What Students Say
Likes
- The rigour of the course is very intense. The syllabus which is followed here is intense and rigorous. Its unique compared to the syllabus offered in other colleges of India.
- Staff lore is very good in MSE. Most of the staffs encourage doubts and are also willing to have conversations with you. Faculties are knowledgeable and they know there stuff very well. They take much interests if you reach out to them through mail.
- They provide a lot of guest lectures which gives us a lot of exposure and we get to know how economics works in the real life policy making sectors.
Dislikes
- Theres no opportunities for sports and extra curricular activities. They don’t conduct any events rather it is done by putting our own money and by the efforts of the students only.
- The campus is very small, and there are no proper areas for sports etc and also the canteen is very bad. It is super minimal.
- If you want social life then this college is not the place, only the studious one survive here. Well you can still make friends here but then the college ‘itself’ does not provide any social life
Course Curriculum Overview
Well the course provides almost everything which is needed and available. This is not a normal economics course as it involves statistics, python, core math and also dives into data science. This allows the students to explore various subjects and can choose which is their best fileld. The curriculum overall is very rigorous and intense but you can crack it if you study regularly. About the frequencies of the examinations, we have 2 internal examinations and 1 end semester examination. I can guarantee that this course is super rigorous but im not sure if i would necessarily say that the course is "practical" and it helps us in the real word. I cannot comment on the practicality of the courses. The exams are not super difficult and its moderate. Getting more than 90% can be challenging although clearing the paper won't be an impossible task.
Fees and Financial Aid
For the first sem, you are required to pay ?60,000 and also a development fee of ?30,000. This is the same for the students of all category but with very negligible concession for the students from belonging to categories other than general. Per sem fees remains the same which is ?60,000. If you opt for hostels then its ?90,000 per year. You are required to pay seperately for food each month and the payment depends upon whether you are opting for veg or non veg. And in the following semesters, if you are the top 3 highest scoring student you get some fee wavers.
Campus Life
Okay this is the worst aspect of MSE. They do not conduct any sort of cultural events or anything for that matter. Eveything is organised and funded by the students themselves, even freshers!! And there are absolutely no opportunities for sports and extra curricular activities, so if yall are coming here please forget about alm those. They expect you to be book nerds and not have an non academic life. There are a lot of student runned clubs but most of them are very inactive and are useless. So if you want a fun college experience then this not the place for you. Theres no ground, proper stage, sound systems etc. The library is decent but it is not used by the ungergrad students and mainly by the pg students. You will still find relevant books for your course.
Admission
I wrote CUET but i did not apply to DU because of many reasons out of which delay was a reason. But then i compared the syllabus of DU and MSE and the rigor of MSEs syllabus cannot be matched with any other colleges i applied. I got admitted in few of the local colleges which i kept as a backup, but the staff lore and the syllabus is not as good as MSE. I did not apply to a lot of other colleges. The admission process to MSE is simple. You need to register for MSEET and if you clear the cut off you will be called. 12th marks are not considered at all (you need to pass tho) but they require you to have applied/standard math/ statistics in class 12th. They do not require any other examinations as such. It is pretty easy to clear the examinations.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is decent because the average class size is about 60-65 not more than that. And as i previously mentioned the staff lore in MSE is very good and they know there stuff. But in classes, they just give you general ideas about there subjects but they are very open to have one to one conversations with the students. They are easily approachable in my opinion. We have 2 internals and one end semester and they are easy to clear and score if you understand the concepts well and study whatever materials the respective faculties provide you. And the number of students who fail clear the exams varied from the different batches but its usually 10-12% of the class strength. Our math faculty Dr Poorna Pushpakala is one of my favourite faculties here. She gives us in depth insights about the subject and she is very proficient in her subject. The faculty I didn't really like was our English teacher because she treated us like highschoolers but other than that the its good.
