What Students Say?
Likes
- There is a lot of freedom and very much gender equality, we can go out and roam in campus at any time of the hour wearing shorts or anything irrespective of wheather we are a boy or a girl
- A lot of freedom in lectures, most of the profs dont care about attendances
Dislikes
- The time for classes is a bit off, too long breaks in the middle, labs in the night
- A lot of academic pressure and too much cultural stuff hapoening at the same time
Course Curriculum Overview
The exam timing is pretty good, there is constant pressure but not too much of it, so a student is always in his performing stage. The courses are pretty much relevant to real world, professors emphasise on such concepts too. A field of imrpovement can be practical exposure, in the industry.
Internships Opportunities
The internship culture is quite nice since the alumni network is very good. People get nice internships with extravagant stipends, yeah there are advantages to other departments as some companies prefer students from cse only, but yeah some accept all.
Placement Experience
The placements are good, although 70% of the class is placed is non core but the core jobs are also good, the top recruiter being L&T, many student head over for indian engineering services and also to indian civil services.
Fees and Financial Aid
The Tution fee for one semester is 100000 and mess fee is 22500 for one semester and hostel fees is 16900 so totals upto 278000 per year. There are many scolarships available, for SC/ST there is no tution fees and no mess fee, and 1/3rd fees for annual income from 100000-500000 and also merit cum means scolariships.
Campus Life
There is so much to do in the campus, you just cant sit idol, there are clubs related to dance music robotics web development coders sports debates photography adventure and what not, there always something or the other going on in the campus. The campus size is around 550 acreas which includes the massive powai lake which is a great hangout spot.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are okayish, like liveable. The rooms are small at hostel-1 which is old. But there are a lot of other facilities like common rooms, musics room yoga room gym tt and pool room, theatre room etc. The mess is quite good they offer everything including from maggie burgers to chhole bhature pav bhaji and gol gappe, and also classic indian food like paneer and aloo etc
Admission
I can say its the best i could get, the civil engg department here at IITB is the best in the country with ample budget for research and developement. So there are literally no forces pulling you behind, you get everything you can have. Supporting professors to supporting staff, everyones nice
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is around 10:1, they are pretty approachable, my favourite professor is mr nagendra velaga.. he promotes speaking skills and conducts confidence bosster acitivities in his classes, he emphasises that a student must not study all the time, he/she should indulge in sports and culturals and says his class should not produce toppers of the institute but future leader. The course curriculum is relevant as for now, it can be improved but it is okayish! Exams are based not on books and theory but on discussions happened in the class
