Course Curriculum Overview
I chose civil cause I wanted more of a hands on approach to a subject and civil seemed the best. The course plan is very well made as it covers all the topics needed for you to succeed in ur future in the respective field. The course could be made a little more easier as it is hard to pass some of them but honestly even if they don't change the course it would be fine.
Internships Opportunities
I'm not sure of the internship process since I'm only a second year student. The whole process starts in third year. You need to pass the companies exams and interview to get an internship on campus or you could apply for one off campus as well. Most of the companies that come for on campus internships don't provide stipend as they want dedicated students who they can teach and build.
Placement Experience
College placements are decent here. Right now due to recession the offers and companies that is coming to the students is less but it should improve by next year. Around 90-95% of the students are place in all branches. I wanna either get a job in core civil side or I'll do my MBA and then decide what exactly I wanna do either sales or continue in civil.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fee is 62500 in 3rd sem and 4th sem. Then there is library fee of 2440 Career development fee of 1220 Health care facilities 1220 Student activities fee 5470 Campus amenities 1220 etc All these extra payments only need to be made in the first sem of the year. Hostel rent (water/electricity charge) 7300 And then total fees comes to 154730 per year
Campus Life
Incident and engineer are the two annual feats of this college. They are the main festivals of this campus. Engineer is a technical fest which is held during the odd semester and incident is the cultural fest held during the even semester. There are two libraries in this campus. Elibrary and central library. In central library a huge variety of books are provided for students. In elibrary space is provided for students to study. Sports in any NITS are really good as there will be an internit competition held for major sports in each year.
Hostel Facilities
Double sharing rooms are provided in first and second year. In third year some students are provided with the option to choose single sharing rooms or double sharing. Basic rooms are provided for each student. Affordable prices for a government college and clean rooms . Mess food is not bad but it's not great either. You can choose between veg or non veg.
Admission
I knew I wanted civil and in South Indian colleges and I got a little impatient during the counseling sessions and accepted on NITK when I could have gotten Trichy as well. But I have no regrets as NITK has a reputation of their own. You have to write jee exam to get into any NIT.
Faculty
The faculty in this campus are honestly not bad. All of them are phd holders in their respective departments. They are very knowledgeable and easy to approach and talk to if you have any enquiries. The dean of academics is one of the best professors in this campus. He teaches mechanics for civil, meta and mining students and if you have him then your fundamentals in that subject will be crystal clear. There are two main exams which is mid sem and end sem. They consist of 25% and 50% of ur grade. End sem is generally made harder. Then there are two quizzes one is before mid sems and one is before end sems. The weightage for these quizzes varies based on subject and prof. Then assignments also can be given which is added to you total marks.
