Likes
- The university has an excellent library which gives us the opportunity to know more about the subject we are learning. The reading room is also very apt for silent learners and it is air conditioned which is really handy during the hotter days.
- The Professors of the Earth Science department are really nice and knowledgeable about the specific subject they are teaching and their research areas are also quite interesting enabling students to explore their area of interests.
- The campus life is quite nice with a variety of programs organized by the students of different departments and is great to socialize with the students of other fields.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is pretty old and the roads inside the university are in poor conditions. Maintenance is poor.
- The administration is getting really bad with the unnecessary hike in fees and the introduction of NEP caused lots of difficulties for the students as it was not in an organized manner.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course purely due to my curiosity to learn more about our planet Earth and the course does justice to my curiosity. From this course we can learn how natural calamities work, how Earth came into being, its processes everything in detail. We can also learn how life came about if we go to the research field and make a breakthrough using the knowledge we receive.
Internships Opportunities
Students can work under professors here for internships which is a pretty good opportunity to expand their career. The Professors are really helpful and the projects are pretty insightful. Stipends are upto 5000 rs per month and the projects are related to what research the faculties are doing.
Placement Experience
ONGC recruits students through their exam which can be prepared through guidance from Professors and books from library. Also, Isro is a great option for students going for research. Students can also study abroad through the letters of recommendations.
Fees and Financial Aid
During the admission time the fees was 22,000 Rs for the first semester which included the caution deposit and the hostel and mess fees was 16000 Rs. For the second sem, as it is an even semester, the fees was around 3,000 Rs and the hostel and mess fees 9,990 Rs. The fees increased by a considerable amount this year.
Campus Life
The clubs are pretty active here like the astronomy club, the earth science club, the dance club, etc. They all have their own programs a lot of time where students can indulge in extracurricular activities.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are great. Apart from the bathrooms being a little bit old, the maintenance is pretty good. It's cleaned everyday and has a good accommodation space. 3 people live in one room. The rooms are specious enough for 3 people.
Admission
This college is said to have the best Earth Science Department in India and true to the reviews the experience is amazing. The Professors are well versed in what they teach and are passionate about it.
Faculty
The faculty members are really knowledgeable and it is insightful to hear their lectures. Their research areas are pretty interesting and they are willing to provide mentorship to those who are interested. The course structure is quite rigorous right now due to NEP but is very useful as we learn skill based courses that help us in the future. They conduct 2 internals for each course from which 40 marks are taken out of 100 along with marks for the assignments given. The semester examination is of 60 marks.
