Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Well, I always wanted to study history and archaeology. They fascinate me. I was preparing for the CUET PG 2023 when I went through the University of Mysore website. Since I was unable to crack the examination, I applied here as a student. We went through an entrance exam and I was able to join here. The subject is interconnected to all other fields from science to social studies. To ace this field, one has to pass with NET exam. On the other hand also to complete a PhD. There is an institution under ASI that trains students in field work. Back to the department, though teachers and staff are helpful, communication is a problem. It is hard to follow up as they will be speaking in state language. I think if they are accepting students from other states, they should also come to a point of common language for communication. The semester exams are not so difficult. Students must study well and understand the concepts. Previous year question papers also help a lot.

Fees and Financial Aid

Well, I do not have much idea about this. For admission for a whole year including 2 semesters, I had to Rs. 34,281. Tuition fees cost around Rs.2904 and have ID card cost around Rs.109. There are scholarships awarded to students. I haven't applied for it and I do not know about it. And again this is only for a year with admissions. I think fees will change from semester 3 onwards.

Campus Life

3.5

The overall experience in the university is good. Begining with the department, they are well equipped with a laboratory, library, classrooms and seminar hall. Classrooms are well ventilated and desks are kept in a good condition except few. Projector is kept in each room. We have a green board. Library books are old but available for further information. The university has a central main library of 2 storeys. Each book belonging to different departments is available. Journals and newspapers are also provided. The library is kept clean. There are computer labs in it. The university also keeps wifi connected everywhere. Festivals are celebrated. Dr. Ambedkar jayanti is also celebrated. Sports and other extra curricular activities are held. Students join in badminton, cricket, throwball, volleyball, table tennis and football. After admission a notice is circulated to involve oneself in each activities. Functions are held in auditorium with students performing in programmes.

Admission

To register as a student in the university, you should have completed your PU College or 10+2 school. Students should pass their bachelors with minimum 55% aggregate. Students belonging to any field can apply for ancient history and archaeology, there is no specific subject to pass. Admissions are held in the month of August and I think around Rs.500 is paid for application fee. More information is available in the university website only. There are reservations benefits for different castes. Entrance exam is held after registering as a student. The syllabus for the test is also available in the website. Previous year question papers are also available to go through. Entrance exams are taken in MCQ format. Exams are not that hard. After few days, two lists are announced for admission. Accordingly visit the department in Mysore and submit all the documents for admission in the department.

Faculty

3.5

The relationship between the students and faculty in the department is great. We are 15 students and have 4 teachers. One of them is the chairman as well. The two are temporary and other two are permanent. Teachers have PhD and diplomas. Teachers and other staffs are quite helpful. The teachers provide notes regarding the subjects both in english and in kannada. Some of the teachers teach in Kannada making it hard for some students. They are approachable if faced with any problem. Syllabus is usually finished early for us to revise the papers.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester where you have to do an internship project for the semester based Most of the companies that visit are from the news organisations like Bangalore Times, The Hindu, Mint, Times of India, Deccan Herald and other companies like ITC also visit frequently. I am not quite sure about the packages offered.

Placement Experience:

By the end of the 2nd semester, we are constantly notified about any vacancies in any department. The college placement cell sends us notifications through our class monitors or sometimes throyoutlr HOD. Even after the end of our final semester exam, we are added in a group that is specially meant for job opportunities and placements, where they constantly update and notify us. Out of 32 students in our class, a total of 12 students got placement. As for me, my plan is to do PhD in the said field.

Curriculum is relevant for us which helps us to attempt competitive exams. Actually the curriculum changes our mindset and it helps to face the real society. I don't think that improvements needes in curriculum. We get one & half hour for internal tests and 3 hours for sem exams and it is enough foe us to cover whole question paper.

curriculum is extensive and large and some students find it hard to grasp all the knowledge given for the syllabus. it may seem daunting at first but i rather prefer this than having little to nothing to study as it helps me find new things to read which i would have never figured out before.
