What Students Say
Likes
- The campus infrastructure is extensive and open with scenic views that makes one blend in well with nature. It acts as a safety net with the busy college schedule to relax and lay back in free time and doesn't let things get too overwhelming.
- The coding culture in place provide many opportunities for enthusiastic students as well as a plethora of research opportunities for students willing to work in core fields.
- The course structure is not entirety placement oriented and gives students space to learn and prepare their own pathways forward.
Dislikes
- The connectivity inside was well as to the outside has always been a major issue. No solid steps have been taken yet to better the scenario. It also affects placements and other learning opportunities as travelling can become a huge hassel.
- The decision making body and structure is rigid and outdated. The college administration rarely ventures to make any positive or forward moving decisions as they seem to be stuck in the past still. It is clear from recent policy making.
- The campus doesnot have a lot to offer recreationally. The Infrastructure is getting outdated and the facilitates you expect from an institute of national standing is lacking in terms of eateries, gyms or such facilitates.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Curriculum is relevant to the Gate syllabus, not entirely but it still covers a lot of the basics. The labs and elective subjects provide hands on experiences. The syllabus has space for improvement and can be updated but is still relevant and fairly moderate for students. The exams are held twice a semester, with a moderate to high level of difficulty.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides a lot of internship opportunities through the Training and Placement Office. The institute has MOUs with colleges like IIT Mandi and IIT Jodhpur for Research Internships. The faculty also offers a lot of help and guidance in such matters.
Placement Experience
The students can start getting placement offers from the 6th semester itself in the form of PPOs(Pre Placement Offers), A lot of high value companies give placements and the placement drive starts early in the 7th semester itself. The percentage of students placed generally is upwards of the 75% mark. The students can get placed in any sort of company as per their pedigree. Some PSUs also offer few positions directly. The institute also has MOUs with some other Institutes that offer Masters and Post Graduation programmes directly.
Fees and Financial Aid
The base fee per semester for my batch is 75750/76000 per semester. Although there are two different systems of financial aid based on caste and income. Students of OBV and EWS category pay a significantly less amount of fees and SC/STs have to pay only a little amount of fees which only amounts to 15-20% of the base fee. Among with this Students having family income less than 1lakh per annum also have to play only a substantial amount of tuition fees.
Campus Life
The college life is very happening in NIT Hamirpur and each semester the college sees either the Cultural Festival Hill'ffair or the Technical Festival NIMBUS. Students can participate in either or both of them and a lot of independent societies like ISTE, E-Cell also conduct their own fests. The institute every year also sees the sports fest lalkaar. In all the co curricular activities offer a vast self improvement possibilities.
Admission
The college gives admission on the basis of the JEE Mains exam. According to the JOSSA guidelines, the institute gives a 50% quota to state-domicile students. The cutoff changes every year in relevance to the exam.
Faculty
The faculty members are a good mix of young passionate professors as well as an experienced lot of professors. Most of the professors are very well qualified and have a laid back attitude to teaching which i feel has been effective. The classes are inspiring and many professors work on research projects which gives interested students to get hands on experience.
