Department of Physical Education (B.P.Ed)

The Name Jadavpur University is one of the major factor for everyone to take admission here, still the quality of academic and practical knowldge that is provided by the Depart of Physical Education is top class. The curriculum that is followed for the BPEd and MPEd course is designed by NCTE (National Council for Teachers Education). The Department was established in the year 1990. The exams and curriculum are of standard level. The department is very focused for the Wholesome development of the students.

During 3rd semester of the course the students are given many opportunities for internships at various levels, government and private sectors included. The students are sent to local schools or educational institutions for Sports event management and officiating and coaching. Apart from this many more opportunities are provided to the students to develop themselves.

Placement cell provides few oppotunities every year for many students with a average package, and as Physical Education has become a major subject now so the students can sit in Govt. Exams like JNV, KVS, DSSB, DAV, EMRS etc. for the post of TGT Physical Education.

The fees of this course is very affordable. 2 years course of BPEd can be completed in Rs. 24700/- Tution fees for BPEd level is Rs. 50/- month. Scholarships are provided by the university based on results and family background.

The overall experience was very nice, the batchmates and seniors are very friendly and supportive. The social life had many aspects, the students needs to focus on the good sides only. The Sports and Extracuricular activities are offered with lots of opportunities. There are many social clubs present in the university.

The Hostel facilities is available for all the students of Departmentof Physical Education as it is a Residential Course. Monthly mess charges is around Rs.1800/-. The hostel rooms are well maintained and has free internet service.

The eligibility for this course is Graduation. A student needs to be a graduate student in any stream with Physical Education as a subject or having a Sports Certificate atleast of District level. The Admission Entrance Test is conducted every year for the Selection of 50 students, based on Theory exam and Physical performance. The admission process needs to be more specific and targeted towards Academic performance of the aspirants.

There are 8 faculty members in the department and 20 Research Scholars and around 6 Part time Guest Lecturers. Out of 8 faculty members 3 are Professors, 2 assiociate Professors and 3 Assistant Professors all having a exceptional background in their field of specialization. A total of 180 students are to be alloted in a session, BPEd 1st Year =50 BPEd 2nd Year = 50 MPEd 1st Year = 40 MPEd 2nd Year = 40. The studnets can contact all the faculty members whenever needed.

Yss, there was a written test conducted for admission the topics were General Knowledge , current affairs and Physical Education and sports related questions. One of the rounds was Practical test or Fitness test and sports skill test. Sports certificate of any level above district is required if the candidate did not had Physical Education in Graduation level.
