Course Curriculum Overview
The course cirrciculum is completely relevant and comprehensive. The cirriculum covers all aspect of being a metallurgical engineer. It teaches us the basic porperties to different real life applications of different metals, their alloys and other elements. Most of the exams are moderate few are hard. We have a fixed schedule given to us prior to the start of every semester listing our exam timetable which is: a mid sem after 1.5 months of start of the sem and at the end an end sem both succeded by a quiz of each course.
Internships Opportunities
There are a lot of internship oppurtunities available in our college. Internships are compulsory in our college in few courses. Companies like IBM, Oracle, Walmart, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Amazon etc. offer internship. Bieng in first I have very less insight on the exact intenship information.
Placement Experience
We are given internship oppurtunities by our college by 5th or 6th semester wherein few get PPOs. From 6th and 7th semester studenets become elligible for campus placements. Companoes like Barclays, Amazon, Bosch, Goldman Scahs, JP Morgan, Tata Steel, Cairn Oil and Gas etc. visit our institute for both placement and internship. Highest Package was around 60lacs in Computer Science and Engineering departement domestic. Average package is generally 18-19 lakhs. Every year the college has a good percentage of placements around 82-88 %.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is no sudden increase in fee policy over past few years. The total fee without any scholarship for general, OBC and EWS is approximately 10lacs for four year B.Tech program. there are a lot of scholarships available for families having income less than 5lacs and even on the basis of GPA under merit cum means. Detailed information can be accessed on the official site of the institute easily.
Campus Life
We have a number of fests held anually like SRIJAN, the cult fest of our college, CONCETTO, the best and most awaited fest of the institute, there are many more departemental fests organized every year. Many events are held in these fests like robo wars, interesting quizzes, food stalls, dance and drama and much more. Our institute has Asia's second largest library. there one can find oldest of journals to newest publications of almost every book. Classrooms are well ventilated and have the facility of smart boards and white boards with newly installed air conditioners. The soprts, the clubs, everything offers a lot of oppurtunity for both girls and boys. There are few studenet-run social groups and clubs in the college, which teaches the students teamwork and leadership alongwith time management. All in all the campus life is awesome.
Hostel Facilities
The college does not allowe for rented accommodations. Students are supposed to stay in the hostel. We have spacious bedrooms and sufficient space to keep things, there are watercoolers and washrooms on every floor. the quality of food is fine. The registration process is really easy and hostels are quite affordable.
Admission
Their is only one way to get into IIT-Dhanbad for B.Tech programs, i.e., by clearing and securing a rank in IIT-JEE Advance examination held every yaer near may or june. You first need to clear JEE Mains held by NTA every year twice and out of lakhs of students only 2 lakh can appear for JEE Advance out of which only nearly 17,000 studenets get a seat. The application form are released on the official sites of NTA and JEE Advance. JEE Advance has two papers, out of which both should be appeared on the same day. Both of them are of 3 hours with almost 2 hours gap between them.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is quiet well, in addition to that there are TAs for every subject so it becomes a lot easier for us to learn. Most of the faculty use power point presentations to show us practical use of the things we learn. We are given assigments and quiz on regular basis. We can approach our faculty in their office during working hours easily. They even help us solve our doubts during or after their lecture.
