Course Curriculum Overview
I will rate the course curriculum decent because it cover the basic engineering concepts that made me choose this course and it prepare us okay for real-world or higher study, but still more practical work and updated teaching method needed, and exams come mostly every semester with some internals which are moderate tough but manageable with regular study. There are some teachers who teach very well and have good teaching methods.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am a student of Dumka Engineering College and I belong from SC category. Our semester fee is around 38k and sometimes it feels like it increase every year a little bit. For different categories the fee also changes, but for SC/ST students the load become little less because we get some support. In my case, E-Kalyan scholarship comes every year, so it reduce a big part of my financial pressure. When the scholarship come on time, it really help a lot because we also have to manage hostel and daily expenses. Overall the fee becomes manageable only because of the scholarship. The best thing is that I get all my fees back from the scholarship.
Campus Life
In my college, campus life is simple but comfortable, with social activities happening mostly around our annual fest and small technical events that usually happen once a year. The library has a decent range of basic engineering books and some journals that are easy to access when needed. Classrooms have projector support and enough seating, but technology could be upgraded more. Sports facilities are available for games like cricket, football and badminton, and students often play in the evening. There are a few student-run groups and small clubs that help in communication and coordination, and even though there are not many big societies, the ones we have still make the campus life a bit more active and engaging. Summer days are a festival, which is a very enjoyable time, everything is fun.
Admission
I choose this college mainly because the cutoff was fitting my rank and also it was government college so fee was manageable compared to other options I applied, like some private colleges where fee was too high. I didn’t get chance in a few better colleges because my score was not enough that time, so I decided to go with DEC as it was the safest and stable option. The admission process was simple through JCECE counselling where eligibility was 12th PCM and rank in the state engineering exam, and students mostly prefer JEE or JCECE score depending on seat availability. The overall admission was smooth, document check and seat allotment done quickly, so I felt this college was practical choice for me even if not the top one. Everything else is fine, if you study well you could have got a better college.
Faculty
Faculty-student ratio is decent and teachers are mostly approachable, the course structure follows JUT syllabus with regular internals and end-sems, exams are moderate with few students failing, and overall the curriculum is useful but sometimes feels outdated..There are 2 internal exams in every semester, once in a month and once in 4 semester months, so there is not much problem at the time of exams.
Night Life
In my college the nightlife is pretty calm because most places gets closed early, like gym, cafeteria and library usually shut around evening time and public areas also get off by night. Hostel and campus have fixed in-timings so students can’t roam outside after that, so the night vibe stay simple. Inside campus we mostly hang around in hostel corridor, terrace or small ground area and talk or listen songs. Outside the college the common spots are nearby tea stalls, small food corners and Dumka market side, but most of it closes early too. The locality is overall safe but still not much crowd at late night, so students prefer staying inside. These small night hangouts help us relax after classes even if the nightlife is not very happening. Sometimes people around me do not seem to have good behavior.
