What Students Say
Likes
- liked the peaceful campus environment and the friendly vibe here, it actually helps in focusing on study.
- The faculty in mechanical department is supportive and they explain concepts in simple way which help in understanding.
- Hostel life is good and students from different branches mix well, so the campus feels active and safe most of the time..
Dislikes
- The infrastructure still needs improvement because some labs don’t have updated machines and equipment...
- Placement support is not very strong and students mostly depend on off-campus chances which becomes little stressful
- The campus facilities like Wi-Fi and classroom maintenance are not consistent and sometimes create problems for students..
Course Curriculum Overview
I feel the course curriculum is okay and the basics are covered well, which is one reason I choose this branch, but some subjects feel outdated and not fully connected to real industry work. It prepare us for further studies more than practical jobs. Exams come every semester with internals in between, difficulty is moderate but few papers become tricky. I think more practical topics, updated labs and better teaching methods will make the curriculum more useful...
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fee of my Mechanical Engineering course in Dumka Engineering College is around ?78,000, which include tuition fee, development charges, lab fee and other compulsory charges. The hostel fee is separate, almost ?20,000 per year, and mess charges we have to pay on our own. Till now the fee is not increasing too much, only small 2–3k hike they say every year. Since I am from OBC category, I get E-Kalyan scholarship which cover almost full tuition fee, so I only pay hostel and some small amounts. My general category classmates don’t get scholarship so their yearly cost become higher. There is no extra financial aid like merit-cum-need in the college, only state scholarship is the main support for students and aicte also provide scholarship but there is lot of conditions.
Campus Life
Campus life in my college is overall ok, the social vibes are decent and fests like the annual cultural event and the tech fest usually happen once in a year and students enjoy it. Library has enough books and some journals but still feel limited sometimes. Classrooms have basic tech like projector but not very modern. Sports options are there for football, volleyball and cricket. There are few student clubs but they are not very active so campus stay little dull in normal days.
Admission
I choose this college mainly because it was affordable for me, the cutoff was in my range and the campus felt better compared to the other options I applied for. I had applied to few more government colleges but I didn’t get confirmed seat there because my rank was little higher and I missed the cutoff by small margin. The admission process here was simple, you need to qualify the state entrance exam and meet the branch cutoff, then document verification and fee payment. I picked this college because the process was smooth and I wanted a mechanical seat without wasting one more year.
Faculty
My college faculty is overall supportive and mostly approachable, the ratio is decent but sometimes one teacher handle too many students so attention feel less, teaching quality is mixed because some explain nicely while few teach too fast and we don’t catch everything, the course structure is bit outdated but manageable, exams happen every semester with internals and marking is sometimes strict so few students fail if they don’t write proper steps. So student needs to be prepared..
Night Life
Nightlife around my college is pretty quiet, most areas close early. The gym, cafeteria and library shut by evening so after that students mostly stay in hostel. Hostel in-timing is usually around 7:30–8 pm and campus gate also don’t allow late entry. Inside campus we hangout near canteen or common area, and outside students go to small tea stalls or market side for a walk. Locality is safe but not very busy at night, so we don’t roam too far..
