My Experience in IIT Guwahati

Overall college is good. Look and climate of the college is awesome since it is located in guwahati. Main problem is that it is located in north east part of india. So, people think twice before going there.

I took GATE exam after my b.tech. I prepared for it in my final year. I got 56.67 marks out of 100 marks in GATE 2013. For those marks, i got 825 rank which is pretty good rank for doing M.tech in IITs.

In my first semester, there were five subjects out of which four were electives and mathematics was compulsory. Same trend goes in second semester also. Third and fourth semesters are entirely allotted to project work. This is good time to contribute something to research area after all these years of study. Faculty is very good and they are always ready to help. Like in any other college, some subjects faculty is not up to the mark according my opinion. I may not be qualified enough to assess them.

For M tech, usually internship offers are less. Siemens approached the professor with one project and recruited me after telephonic interview. Stipend amount was 20000 per month and I have done my M.tech project for 10 months as intern. I was the only one who had done internship in my entire batch.

Placements are good but not excellent. I should not disclose these details according to guidelines of institute. In my branch 70% students got placed with good packages.

Yearly two major events are there. One is techniche (techfest) and other is alcheringa (cultural fest). Both are very good and occupies with students from so many colleges at that time.

Institution fee is around 13000 per semester and 2000 hostel fee per month. So, You can complete one semester with around 25000 easily including your canteen costs.

Scholarship of 12400 usually come to all. M Tech students in all recognized institutions by MHRD India. So, Institute doesn't offer separately.

IITs are very good in terms of extracurricular activities. So many tournaments are being held in each sport. Dedicated grounds, gyms are available. Inter IIT competitions are also there if you are champion.

Hostel facilities are very good. All rooms are single rooms with ample space in each room. It contains bed, chair, table, lan port for internet, big almirah, Mess food the worst thing in IIT guwahati. If you are staying in hostel, you should definitely su

Alumni are connected by social network groups. College also maintain the list of students who passed out and send regular mails to them to get them in touch with college. So, Any one can contact with alumni through college help.

It was the right balance. In one semester, for each subject, two quizzes, one mid and one end sem exam is there.
