IHM - A Student's Perspective

The course curriculum definitely lays the basic foundation of Hotel management for students. It is very outdated and needs to be updated. And more than theory or practical at the college, you will develop key skills such as Grooming and confidence.

I interned at a property by Taj (ODC) for 5 days with a payment of 1500 per day. And completed training at a property by Leela for 126 days with a stipend of 2000 per month. I also took part in smaller odcs with payments based on ranging from 100 to 200 per hour for 9 hours.

5th semester onwards, students are eligible for campus placements. Many companies like the Oberois, Taj, ITC, Leela, Radisson, or other retail companies like McDonald's, Starbucks, etc make offers. The highest package may go upto 15 LPA and the lowest 5 LPA. 80% PLACEMENTS.

Tuition fees does not go through much hikes. It is very regular. The cost of one year approximates upto 1 lakh over two semesters, and every year and amount of 12700 has to be paid separately to IGNOU, and a cost upto 1000 per year for exam fees. Scholarships are available to students on the ihm website

There are many fests and theme lunches or dinner held in the college through out the year, including freshers day, farewell, special occasions. Classrooms are well ventilated, with projecting screens and white boards. About 100 students may fit in a classroom. There are events held for sports and dance at least once in a year. There are sports clubs, dance clubs, and other professional clubs that are handled by students, mostly led by final year seniors.

You have to be a 12th standard pass with 60%. Generally, you have to apply by taking the NCHMCT JEE exam, and if you crack it, you will be offered 3 IHM institutions of India to select and then they proceed. But I applied to IHM Goa when the provisional admission category was opened, they asked for my 12th certificate, migration certificate, 10th certificate, migration certificate, address proof and birth certificate.

There is a decent faculty to student ratio, and there is a clear pattern that IHM prefers to hire IHM alumni as faculty, or someone with great experience. There is also another pattern that IHM faculty are generally having many years of experience at the college, about an average of 10-25+ years. Some teachers are very genuine and they reach out to us for interactions so it is safe to say multiple times a week.
