What Students Say
Likes
- Firstly the campus both north and south are very beautiful.
- The courses are designed in such a way that it gives exposure to a lot of fields like artificial intelligence, robotronics etc
- The mess food is also better than other IITs for sure.
Dislikes
- The college has a strict 80% attendance policy.
- There are a lot many seminars and all are compulsory to be attended even if those are outside our field of interest.
- There are a lot of issues in commuting between two campuses for classes as the buses are not not sufficient.
Course Curriculum Overview
The college offers courses like design practicum, inter socio- technical projects and many other courses where real exposure to problem statements can be experienced. The attendance can be relaxed as it is more relevant for those who are more into self studies.
Internships Opportunities
The companies that visited for internship roles are given in sequence in which they came to our campus like codenation, sprinkle, Google, flipkart, Intuit, indeed, Zomato, medibuddy, anarock, ace online, sprih labs and many other big companies Hitachi. They mostly offered the roles in software and data science field. But many of them were in management also. They mostly focus on data structures and algorithm for intern roles as it covers most of the thinking ability to be tested
Placement Experience
In 3rd year students start to appear for interviews. These are for the internships. In 4th year companies are coming for final placements. The famous companies which visited for internship are Amazon, flipkart, Zomato, razoroay, medibuddy, nucleus software and other big tech giants like Hitachi, Google etc. This year placement stats are not that good as almost 30-40% students are yet to be placed. I will be joining Accenture japan after my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fee generally remains constant. Hostel fees are varying a lot due to sudden inflation after 2010. Like I joined in 2020 that time hostel fee was 19500 and now it's 28400 in 2024. Important thing to note is that this hostel fee includes mess fee also. The college offers 10000 per year to deserving students with less income.
Campus Life
There are a lot of annual and tech fests like frosthack, ranneeti, exodia, yamaha hackathon in deep learning which happened this year. Most of the classroom nowadays are fully digital leaving only 10 classrooms at max. The collge has 3 gyms all fully equipped, football ground, cricket ground, hockey ground and other indoor game tools. There are a lot many student run clubs like programming club, music, dance, literary society club etc
Hostel Facilities
The hostels at IIT mandi are best from my point of view. Mostly all the new IITs have very high standard hostels. The amenities that hostel include are refrigerator, induction, water cooler, electric iron etc. There are common study rooms at each floor. Once you registe at IIT mandi in btech program you are automatically allocated hostels and mess . So, no need to worry about the process.
Admission
The admission process at IITs are generally common through a cmon entrance exam all over India named jee mains for nits and then after qualifying in that we need to score good in jee advanced. There are reservations for sc, st, obc and economically backward classes. Like you can get good branches with lower marks. For example in computer science you can get 6000 rank for obc but around 2000 for general candidates.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is almost 30 to 1. It gives us more personalised time with the main professors. There are a lot many faculties who are open for any kind of discussion, it totally depends on the students, how are they gonna use them. The teachers are always available for doubt clearification.
Interview Experience
There were no interviews, group discussion for the admission process. There is an all India entrance exam called jee just after the 12th board. The subjects that test includes are physics, chemistry maths. Jee mains contains questions from mostly ncert concepts. Jee advanced has more engaging and analytical questions. Like more on a tougher side is the jee advanced. I was mostly relying on self study and online materials and tutorials for both jee mains and advanced.
