Course Curriculum Overview

Medicine always has been a world of fascination and knowledge. Combining the two it is a handsome profession to follow. Yes, the work and course is a bit heavy and hectic but at the end of the day we learn how to manage the hurdles and move ahead becoming medical graduates. The 5.5yrs course duration is divided into 3 phases and there'll be yearly exams following the completion of the phases. Eligibility is based on the competency level attained by the student.

Class Size: 175Course Fees: INR 25000 per year

Internships Opportunities

After completing the 4th and final year of the course i.e Part 2 of Phase 3 under the new CBME curriculum, there will be an internship for one year duration for which you will have a decent stipend every month.

Fees and Financial Aid

There's a tuition fee of around 25k per year, hostel and mess fee is seperate. There are numerous scholarship and assistance provided by the state and central government as well as other organisations.

Campus Life

The campus of GMC Thrissur extends along a 250+ acres with sports ground, park, training grounds, gym etc. within the campus. A central library provides wide ranges of academic and non academic literature. Number of clubs work in the campus run by students themselves.

Hostel Facilities

Hostel facilities are at par for the students. Hostel are allotted according to the vacancy and other criterias which are provided at the time of admission. Hostel mess is run by students so the menu and quality is under the control of the students itself.

Hostel Fee: INR 2000 per year

Admission

Admission to Government Medical College Thrissur is through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on merit basis once every year. The exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) while the counselling and admission procedures are under the supervision of Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Reservation and other criterias are considered and followed during the admission which do benefits students to some extent.

Life at SUTAMS

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course not due to the curriculum..i qlways dreamed of becoming a good doctor.The level.of satisfaction you get in this profession wont be anywhere else.The modernization of curriculum has stressed on the clinical aspects which i think is the core of medicine. We have been taken to bedside and taught to examine patients diagnose the case and interpret imaging.Also the skill lab clears the obstruction we face in a real life like we are being trained in BLS and ALS. Our junior batches are also taken to trivandrum medical college to see autopsy which in fact is a real opportunity. The course could improve in a way that apart from academics it must give importance to sports arts also which is not promoted in our college.Also revisions classes can be made effects by conducting small test papers chapter wise instead of taking chapters on repetition. Exams are almost done in an effective way. The course is actually very difficult compared to others.So much effort has to be put in from both students and Teacher's side.

Admission is given based on entrance examination. I am doing my MBBS course from this college. I got admission in this college through NEET entrance examination. After clearing NEET, I applied with my score in counseling, and got admission in this college by my score. We must have studied Physics, Chemistry and biology in 12th and must have completed 17 years of age.

Remarks:

The hostel and college infrastructure are a little poor compared to other colleges but it is expected with the minimal fees given. There are a lot of festivals and programs and a healthy political atmosphere. The non violent conflicts between the two opposing parties lead to good development in the college.

So, in order to get admitted, one needs to be either 17 or more in age. It holds some general basic necessities that all colleges demand like (10+2) cbse or equivalent exam degree. And you need to score more than 50% aggregate in PCB / Biotech combined. For admission in UG courses, candidates can apply through their NEET UG medical scorecard. Aspirants need to clear the stated cutoff percentile in order to qualify. Candidates can check the expected cutoff percentile in the year of examination in order to prepare accordingly for their respective categories( general, SC/ST, OBC). A candidate can visit the official portal of Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala to get themselves registered for NEET 2020 Kerala State Counselling. Counselling of NEET 2020 for All India Quota will be conducted in two rounds in online mode. The counselling will consist of these steps. 1. Registering to the official website. 2. You have to choose the courses and colleges of your preference and finally lock-in the preferences in the online portal. 3. Thrissur is where I have my home so my first preference was always Thrissur. The other colleges I looked at we're Kozhikode Medical College, TDMC Allapuzha, Madras Medical College. These are all good colleges but ultimately too far from my home. Admission process through TMC is via NEET. General category in 2023 got in through cut off marks of 630-640.
