Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

This course mostly all the parts required to be a good civil engineer but one thing personally I think is that the curriculum is very old it should be updated. Lab facilities are very with high class lab equipments. After beginning of a semester after a month quizzes are there followed my midsem after 2 months then quizzes after a month of midsem then in last Endsem. Personally Grading in this course is relatively in good in comparison to other courses here in IIT guwahati. Difficulty level I would give 8 out 10. I would say engineering is hard having labs and classes make you whole day very busy.

Internships Opportunities

4

College provides good internship opportunities with large no. of companies visiting for intership. Students entering in 5th semester are eleigible to sit in the intership. Around 300 students got intern with several PPOs in which most of the intern were of 100000 above majorly in the field of SDE.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements are good in IIT Guwahati. So students entering in 7th semester in Btech sit for the placement in which technical round or test start from sept to october and companies starts visiting from starting of the December. To sit in the placements students should not have any active backlog and CPI above 5. Total no. of comapanies visited were 246 which includes Google, Goldman, Microsoft etc. and no. of offers were made 1112 .Total no. of registered students placed were 83% with the highest international package was 2.4 cr and highest domestic was 1.2 cr with the average placement of 25.75 lpa and median of 21.63 lpa.

Fees and Financial Aid

So, per semester it goes to 130000 rs for a General category student breaking it to 100000rs tuition fee and hostel fees around 30000 in which mess charge of 18000 is included and rest 12000 hostel rent including room charge, electricity and etc. For SC, ST students there is 100% tuition fee waiver. For Gen Ews if annual income is below 100000rs there is 100% tuition fee waiver and if below 500000 then 2/3 tuition if waived off. In campus we have MCM scholarship - Merit-cum-Means scholarship for financial assistance. I your department rank is 1 you get scholarship.

Campus Life

4.5

Overall campus experience is very good... it's a green campus with great infrastructure facilities being it hostels or Acedmic area. Lakes add beauty to the campus. College has so many clubs like cultural, technical, sports, welfare and so many other students run bodies are there. We have annual cultural fest Alcheringa - North east largest fest held in moth of Feb and tech fest Techniche held around in october. Library facility is good one problem is there it only open 24x7 during exams only else it open up to 2 am.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel facility is amazing. Registration for hostel and mess is done during your admission to college automatically. Total no. of hostel are 14 in which 10 boys hostel and 3 girls hostel and one married scholar hostel. After the admission process hostel is alloted to students randomly. For first and second year students of btech double occupancy room is provided which has a cupboard, an open almirah, lan port, two bed, a chair is and a table though you can ask for one more chair and table but rooms are not meant for double occupancy so it creates problem as it occupies lot of space. Sports, music, gym, canteen and stationary is available in hostel. In mess you get food of diiferent variety covering the food of every places of India. Hostel charge is 33000 which includes mess and rent. Food quality is good but it varies hostel to hostel but overall it's good. Twice in a weak special dinner is provided which has paneer for vegetarians and chicken for non-vegetarians.

Admission

I want to share my experience with you about applying to IIT Guwahati. Getting In: First thing first, you need to make sure you meet the requirements like in 12th grade you score should be 75% above for GEN category and 65% for other SC, ST. Two exams are there... on qualifying JEE Main you are eligible for JEE Advanced after clearing this test also you go through Josaa seat allocation round. Extra Help: If you're from a special category like SC, ST, OBC or GEN EWS or have any disabilities, there are benefits available for you. SC - 15%, ST -7.5%, OBC-27%, GEN EWS - 10% and 5% in every category for person with diabilities more than 40%. Exams in College: In every semester 2 exams- Midsem and Endsem and 2 Quizzes one before midsem one after midsem. I can see scoring good grade is tough in IIT Guwahati in comparison with other iits. Improvement in admission process: JEE Main seems to be very unorganised exams considering several shifts and there different percentile system.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not really good in our college, it is more of a research institute so it mainly focuses on PhD as PhD strength is good. Higher education is more prefered here but placement scenario is also good

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant and is different for different branches according to their needs. I was interested in civil engineering and chose the course and find the curriculum intersting and relevant for me . The curriculum offers subject which are important for real world applications, like in civil engineering it's offers subjects like building construction, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, material testing, serving, etc. The course curriculum is very good but the teaching methods needs improvement like more digitalization . The exams frequency and timings are neither too late nor too early, they are perfectly planned and executed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There exists a good teaching staff that's why the course is very easy to understand also teachers give us good examples also do practicals so that's students understand the course easily . I see that there exist a low no of equipments in practical lab compare to it's students ratio so if they have a good no of equipments then all students get equipment to do experiment without any waste of time . Time is good as compare to marks and the first 30 marks are beginner level the other 40 marks are intermediate level and the remaining 30 Marks are advanced level questions in a question paper for the students they published.

So, in Whole northeast Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology is the no 1 and the oldest private engineering college and I decided to take admission there.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
