Course Curriculum Overview
Chemical Engineering is 1 such field that has links with all other industries. A guy who becomes a Chemical Engineer can fit in any company, so I desired to choose this course. The college studies & practical training do help to prepare the candidates for the real world job but the actual experience comes only when you join the real world jobs. So the institutes should give introduce more real world industry specific trainings in the curriculum so the students have a good foundation when they enter the real world jobs. As already mentioned earlier the course consisted of total 8 semesters with varying level of difficulties.
Placement Experience
The college provided placement services after finishing the 3rd year of the course. Several small scale companies visited the campus & offered packages starting from INR 96,000 per year until INR 5 lacs per year. The highest package offered was INR 5 lacs annually & the average package offered was INR 2.5 lacs annually. The college placement ratio was around 40%. After finishing my degree the immediate plan was to get a decent salary package job wherein I could learn & enhance my technical skills.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees as constant for all the 4 years of the course. There was no rate hike policies. The complete cost for my BE Chemical course was arounf INR 5 lacs inclusive of all. There were some scholarships available which reduced the tuition fees upto 80% but I was not eligible. I had taken a job after passing the campus interview. The job was for project management position with a stipend of INR 1800 per month. This was in the year 2003 after I passed my BE course.
Campus Life
We had a yearly festival called Bahar. It was held typically in the month of December every year. The library was very nice with access to almost all the technical books & guides one could imagine. The classrooms were spacious & well ventilated with projectors. The college also provided sports and extra curricular activities like Cricket, Football, swimming, etc. There were some student run social groups but it was mostly for fun activities & didn't impact the student life much.
Admission
The eligibility for the course was 12th pass with distinction. I got the application details from the college office in Kharghar. I was from the open category so didn't avail any reservation benefits as such. The course was for total 4 years consisting of 2 semesters yearly making it a total of 8 semesters. The exams were bit difficult but not impossible to crack if you have good basic knowledge. The admission process was completely manual so bit cumbersome. Would suugest to make it online so it's easy.
