Unveiling Experience at IIT Mandi

Mechanical engineering offers you a wide range of career paths, even if you want to go in IT or Core, that why I chose this course The curriculum prepares you very well for the real-world applications with problem-solving and lab practicals The areas for improvement are students must be able to take any course he/she is interested in without any prerequisites and the teaching methods need improvement There are two exams every semester, one is mid-semester and the other is Final exam, this exams happen at 2 months interval after the start of the semester

The internship opportunities are not so good in the recent years due to recession, but still some MNCs, like google, microsoft, adobe, sprinklr and many more visited the campus for internships, also the campus has tie-up with a japnese recruiting portal which proviedes many Software development internship opportunities in Japan. The semester exchange program is also a good opportunity for students to visits different countries and spend one semester there, which may also offer you research internship opportunities at that campus The projects depend on which background the faculty member is like Machine learning, computer based, powerplant based projects for core etc.

The placements are provided by college on campus, students in btech 4th year and mtech 2nd year are eligible for campus placements. In the current year placements are not so good due to recession Some of the top MNCs like google, amazon, microsoft, adobe and many more visit the campus for placements every year, I dont have access to exact placement records, but the placement percentage last year was around 95-100%, but this year its very less around 50-60% currently. This years highest package is 1.25 crore this year and the average is yet to be disclosed, last year the average was around 25 LPA and almost all of the students got placed. If I get a good offer for placements then I will go for it, if not then I will pursue further studies in masters.

Tutions fees are increasing every year with rate of 4-5%, The complete cost of education at my university is 2,56,400 per year including service,hostel and mess charges The SC/ST students get 100% scholarship on tution fees, OBC/General candidates below 1 lakh yearly income also get 100% scholarship on tution fees, and 60% scholarship for OBC/General candidates below 4 lakhs yearly income I'm currently not involved in any campus placements/responsibilities that include stipend awardment

There are 3 fests organized annually, Rann-neeti is inter-college sports fest, Exodia is Inter-college cultural fest and Ruvaan is inter-college technical/literature fest There are wide range of books available in the library and they are easily accessible We have projectors in every classroom The campus offers variety of sports and extra curricular activities including technical clubs, cultural clubs, sports clubs etc. Every fests are organized by the team of students and also students lead the club grouups. The campus life here is very amazing offering a scenic view of mountains and surroundings

The hostel facility is provided by the college and every students is compulsory to stay in the hostel except Phd research students The food served in mess is average, sometimes it get worse, the mess need a lot of improvements Hostels are provided to each and every student, so there is no need for a separate registration and hostel fees are very affordable and minimal The locality is underdeveloped, you wont get much facilitites if you rented room or PG near the campus

To be eligible for admission to a mechanical engineering in IIT, we need to complete class 12th with physics chemistry and maths background. You have to pass the JEE Mains exam to be eligible for JEE-IIT Advanced, the application form, fees and dates are announced well before the exam and it's a simple process The JEE Mains exam happens twice every year, and JEE-IIT Advanced exam happens only once a year The admission process is very smooth, and I dont think it needs any improvement
