- The faculty of my branch are helpful and the academics is not that hectic.
Dislikes
- Travelling to home becomes a problem for those who are not from Himachal And the nearest railway station is 80 km far.
- The city Hamirpur is not that developed and so there are no good malls and theatres.
- Mess food sometimes sucks and there are less good restaurants to order food.
Course Curriculum Overview
My branch is electronics and communication. It has to do with circuits. Though I wanted cse but due to high cut off I was alloted ece. It is not a problem for me since all IT companies allow ece students also for placements. ECE is a quite tough branch but can be handled if one is regular in studies and has good attendance. As far as faculty members of my department are concerned they are very helpful and open to the students. Their offices are always open for all students and for all of their queries which may be academic or non academic. ECE will be in boom in near future due to setting up of semiconductor factories in India. In improvement I would want the department to focus on educational trips and improve the lab machineries. Teaching must me focused more on practical. In btech we have 8 semesters in 4 year duration and in each semester there are two exams held which are mid semester and end semester exams.
Internships Opportunities
There are less internship opportunities provided in the campus. In the year 2023 some companies which visited the campus for internship opportunities were TVS, Maruti Suzuki and Oracle which offered jobs for core mechanical engineering students and software engineers. They conduct tests to recruit students for providing internships. Moreover some of the students grabbed internship offer at google which was off campus.
Placement Experience
Since it is a NIT therfore the placements are good and there are good amount of placement offers provided on campus. For internships the companies visit the campus each year for 3rd year's 6th semester students. Less companies visit for internships but fir placements it is quiet better. Students become eligible for placement for 7th and 8th semester. The highest package offered for 2022-2023 was 173 lakhs per annum. Average package was around 12 lakh and for ECE department it is 15 lakh per annum. As per 2023 690 students were placed out of 952. Percentage placement was around 75 percent for 2022-2023. Infosys, Godrej, Samsung, Maruti Suzuki, TVS and others visited the campus. I look forwa for placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have no knowledge if there is increase in tuition fees but I can tell about the fee structure of last few years whuch has remained same. It is 76450 per semester for general and obc category student with annual income of more than 5 lakhs but fir those whose annual income is less than 5 lakhs and more than 1 lakh it is 2/3 of above value. For those whoe annual income is less than 1 lakh it is 13 to 14 thousand. Fir sc and st students it is 13 to 14 thousand irrespective of annual income. NSP scholarships are available for students and various other scholarships fir students provided by their state government. Presently I am in second year therefore I have not got any opportunity of job roles of stipends. The internship time in college is in 3rd year.
Campus Life
The college life at NIT Hamirpur is undoubtably amazing. The campus feels like heaven as it is situated in Himachal Pradesh and is in the lap of Dauladhar Mountain ranges. Each year a cultural fest which is Hillfair and a technical feat named Nimbus is held. Hillfair is held generally in November and Nimbus is held in March or April. The library at NITH is enriched with books on all topics and of all types. It has almost 1 lakh books and is fully computerised. Issuing books is very easy. The classrooms are equipped with projectors and spears for e learning. Almost all sports facilities are provided by the college. We have SAC(student activity centre) where badminton court, tennis and basketball courts are newly built. We also have karate hall. Gym is also present in some of the hostels and a common gym in SAC. There are various technical and non technical clubs and societies in the college to promote various activities.
Hostel Facilities
For each year students there are different hostels and it is changed every year. There is enough accommodation facilities for all students of the college. I live in hostel in the campus l. The rooms are quiet spacious. Rooms are 3 or 4 seaters for 1 st, 2nd and 3rd year but is singke seater for 4th year students. Mess food is just okay. I can give a rough idea if menu: beakfast generally consists of parathas, milk, bread jam, corn flakes, boiled eggs and pav bhaji; lunch consists of dal rice roti a vegetable chole bhathure and biryani on Sundays . We also get snaks in evening and in dinner we have non veg on 3 days and veg on other days. Hostels are quite affordable and cost around 35 thousand per semester including mess food. So overall experience is good and feasible to afford.
Admission
The admission in all NITs,GFTIs and IIITs is through JEE Main exam(Joint Entrance Exam). I had also given the same exam. The application form, dates and fees all can be found on JEE Main official website which is jeemain.nta.ac.in . If you are a general candidate you have to score atleast 92 percentile to get admission in a NIT in lower branch. The cut off for my branch was 98 percentile. OBC, Gen EWS, SC and ST avail reservation benefits and their cut off is low. Moreover NITs have home state quota. Also there is female quota. The JEE main exam is conducted 2 times each year for 12th student, 1st dropper and 2nd dropper and the best result of 2 attempts is considered as final result. The syllabus of jee main exam is physics, chemistry and maths syllabus of 11th and 12th and syllabus is also present on jee mains official website. The questions are of good level and above borad exam level. I had gone to Kota to prepare for this exam where I had joined a coachin institute.
