Course Curriculum Overview

3

If I had to rate the relevance of the course curriculum, I would rate 7 out of 10. The reason for not giving an excellent rating is that an MBA is a managerial course unlike Finance, Engineering, etc. I can be learned through practical exposure to the real life scenarios. It should be taught through live or practical sessions. The real weapon of an MBA graduate is his ability to communicate, managing the people and business. There are a few subjects, like organizational behavior, human resources, and entrepreneurship, which only contain theory. One cannot become wise from another person's wisdom. He has to do his own things and mistakes and learn through them. These curriculum focuses on theoretical aspect.

Internships Opportunities

2

This year, the internship opportunities could have been more prominent. They were predominantly for marketing. There were a considerable amount of finance and HR companies. However, the other fields performed very poorly. There was no transparency regarding the parameters of the shortlisting of candidates for the process. Many candidates were not shortlisted despite having good resume.

Placement Experience

3

The college offers decent placement to the students. This year, the market was down and volatile. Despite the situation, the college was able to place most of the students out of 700. The performance was very good when compared to other B-schools. This year the average was 13 lacks.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee for the first year is approximately ten lacks, and the hostel and mess fees are Rs. 1,92,000 and Rs 60,000 respectively. The college fess has to be paid in 3 installments and within stipulated time only. The college provides financial concessions to the selected students only. These students has to go through a seperate process for financial assistance. There is sholarship exam and interview of the candidates.

Campus Life

3.5

The overall experience on campus concerning social life was good. The college conducted many events like Allizwell, flagship event Melange, cultural events like war of bands. Through these events, the students got to showcase their talents. There are many clubs and committees in the campus. The information about clubs and committee is on the official wesite. The college has subscription to so many databases and each Somaiya college has its library.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel has satisfactory facilities. How there are certain restrictions that students need to follow. Late entry after 11 pm is prohibited. However, the students has to report to the warden if he is too late.

Admission

I got shortlisted for K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management through the NMAT examination. I scored 224 on the exam. I had already filled out the application form for the college. The form fee was Rs.2000. After getting shortlisted for the CA/PI process, I received a notification regarding the process. The process was online and from home. The process was conducted in two stages: the first round was case analysis, where the panelist gave me a case. I had to read, analyze and answer the questions put forth by panelist. The level of difficulty was medium. The second round was a personal interview. There were two panelists: one male and a female. They asked me about myself, things which I had written in my SOP, e.g. my education, strength, hobbies, weakness etc. Then asked about my graduation and put forth questions related to my filed of graduation. I am a commerce graduate, so they asked me question on accountancy, economics, banking etc. The entire process was lasted for 2 hours.

Interview Experience

3.5

Yes, I had to pass through the CA/PI process. It was online and from home. There were two rounds: The first round was case analysis, in which panelists gave me a case. I had to analyze and solve it and answer the questions. The second round was a personal interview. The panelist asked me about myself, my education and field of interest in MBA and asked questions related to the accountancy, economics and bankking.
