One of the most underrated colleges of India: BIT Mesra

Electronics & Communication is one of the most trending branches in engineering apart from Computer Science. Placement levels are close to Computer Science, and good in general. However, the faculty members for this branch at this institute are not that great. They do have a lot of personal achievements, like having published hundreds of research papers, etc, but when it comes to teaching, they are a bit underwhelming. They are also very strict and grumpy most of the times.

Students have to apply for internships by themselves. Companies like Texas Instruments, PWC, Microsoft, Deloitte, Wipro etc offer internships with some of them giving out PPOs as well. Internships are decent overall, with most students getting one.

Placements are great, especially for cicuital branches like CSE, AI&ML, ECE, EEE. For core branches, the placement stats are decent but not as great as circuital branches. The placement percentage was more than 80% last year, although due to recession, the stats have plumetted. Some students also get PPOs after internship in third year.

Tuition fee has been increased substantially in the last few years, and is now approximately 1.5 lakh per semester in the first year, while going upto 2.5 lakh in the final year. However, this is an autonomous institute and does not get a lot of grants by the government, hence the high fees. Scholarships are available on merit as well as merit-cum-means basis. The total cost education is approximately 18 lakh, including tuition fee, hostel fee, mess fee etc.

College life is amazing at BIT Mesra.Fests are top notch, with the biggest one being Bitotsav in March, the annual cultural fest and Pantheon in September, the flagship technical fest. Apart from these, a lot of fests ar eorganised throughout the year, like E-Summit, Utkrisht, Dramzest, Rostra, etc. The library is a big, three storeyed one, with a lot of books which can be issued for 15 days. An annual sports meet is also organized in which students from other colleges also participate. Apart from this, inter-hostel and inter-club tournaments are also organized. Coming to clubs, there are more than 33 clubs and societies in BIT Mesra, like ACM, IET, EDC, Rotaract, PSoc, etc, each of which have their own flagship events. Overall, there is a lot going on throughout the year.

Hostels are decentish, but not very great. Hostel fee is 20000 per semester, while mess charge varies between 3000-5000 depending on the menu. First year students get a double-sharing room while boys get a single occupancy room from second year. Girls have to share their rooms throughout their study. There are total of 12 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels. Food quality is acceptable, with a variety of items on the menu, but it's not quite close to home-made food. The mess is managed by the students themselves, with the Mess Secretary and four Mess Members being appointed soon after college starts.

Minimun eligibilty criteria is 75% marks in 12th Board Exams and qualification in JEE (Main). Admission occurs through JoSAA, CSAB and institute level counselling. JEE (Main) exam occurs twice a year, in January and April.
