- The attendance sometimes becomes a burden as the college is very strict in terms of attendance and classes.
- The extra classes sometimes feels like a burden. If the teacher has to cancel his class due to some problem then he adjusts it by taking extra classes which is good but sometimes feels like a burden.
Course Curriculum Overview
The field of Biosciences have been a fascinating subject for me since childhood. Microbiology provides a variety of exposure to many fields like Medical, Industrial, Marine, Food Microbiology. Also the domains of Phycology, Mycology, Bacteriology and particularly Virology has been a fascinating subject for me. It provides a vivid exposure to not only the microbial world but also to the minute unseen world around us. The faculty is very cooperative and the faculty student ratio is 7:18 i.e 1 teacher for 3 students approx. All the faculty members have a PhD degree. The HOD has a PHD in Ralstonia solanacaerum, the 2nd most pathogenic plant bacteria. The exams are timely and very strict in terms of evaluation and disciplinary measures. The level of examinations are good and it's not that easy to pass here. As marks, internals and attendance also matters. The college is very strict on attendance and there is no bunking classes.
Internships Opportunities
I completed my internship from IIt Guwahati whose link was shared by our professor. There I had the chance to work in a BSL 3 cabinet and i worked with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. My topic was "Stem cells and infectious diseases". It basically refers to how the bacteria can hide in our bone marrow on unfavorable conditions and again come out when favourable conditions come back. I got a wide exposure in my internship period and I'm thankful to both the laboratory and my professor for giving me that opportunity.
Placement Experience
From 5th semester the students become eligible for placements. There are a number of pharmaceutical, industrial and also educational companies come for placements. The package for Bachelors students is a bit less but for Masters and PhD students, it is very satisfactory. One of our seniors got placed in Academor, a leading coaching institute. I personally plan to get a master's degree after completing my graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is affordable and cost effective. The topper in every semester gets a scholarship of Rs 20000 if the student has an attendance of 95%. For any student who requires financial assistance the Admission Department provides adequate assistance to everyone irrespective of their country. Since I haven't completed my degree so I haven't yet got any job offers till now.
Campus Life
The annual fest is Conscencio and it is held in January. The library is well equipped with all sorts of books and journals. The classrooms are well maintained and has digital facilities for education. Also all the classes are big enough and aur conditioned. The college has both indoor and outdoor sports activities like Pool, Badminton, Lawn tennis, Swimming, Horse riding, Table tennis, Snooker etc. There are several student clubs and also students union where the most notable are the Sigma Literary Club, Sports Club, Drama Club and Cultural Club.
Admission
The admission requires 70 percentage in 12 standard along with a good performance in the personal interview. The application form can be found in the official website of the college. The fees for my course is 36500 per semester. The application starts after the 12 standard results declaration. As I am a general category student I didn't have any reservation benefits. The admission process was good and I didn't face any issues.
Interview Experience
My personal interview was taken by the HOD and another faculty member. The topics included biology topics of Class 11 and 12 especially DNA, protein structure, basic human physiology and also a bit of Chemistry. Aftrr the question round, the HOD reviewed my extra curricular certificates and asked me other questions related to the subject and also of my future planning. I studied the biology topics of Class 11 and 12 for my PI thoroughly which proved handy to me.
