IIT Madras BS in Data Science: Everything you need to know.

I chose this course because by 2026 Data Science market will grow very much due to AI. I will have very better opportunities by the time I will become a graduate. Faculty is good enough. 1 teacher upon 100 students. Classes takes place on Zoom meetings. Recorded lectures are always available on the course page. Remedial classes takes place before quizzes and end term examinations. Term exams takes place every 4-5 months, quizzes takes place regularly. Exam is Hard, one must have covered all the concepts to go through the exam. Diploma Level is the toughest level in my opinion. Grading is based on CGPA.

Tata communications, Microsoft, Google, cognizant, TCS, Wipro, Infosys offers internships in both paid and free methods. Microsoft and Google usually gives quite good stipend but other companies dont provide good stipend. Data analysation, Project Management are the main tasks.

From 7th semester students become eligible for campus placements by paying a nominal fee of Rs 1900. Big MNCs like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple hire students. Highest package last year offered was 1.2 Crores. Approx 172 offers were made with the highest package of 1.2 cr and average package to 17 Lakhs. 91% students get placed, approx 6-7% chose for higher studies. I will go for higher studies (MBA) through IIM.

Fees increases in each level. 1st year 75000, 2nd year 1,10,000, 3rd year 1,15,000 and 4th year 1,20,000. A big jump between foundation level and diploma level. On campus scholarship available for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Upto 25% waiver on basis of family income. Students can also get Loan under CSIS scheme provided by Central government. State Bank of India sanctions on campus loans. MNCs offers Internships free and paid both. One gets this opportunity by his own hardwork. On campus placements takes place 2 months before the final examination, by clearing which you will get your degree.

Annual fest is Saarang which takes place on 2nd or 3rd week of January. Tech fests like Hackathon, Paradox and Marghazi takes place between Semester Breaks. Most of the books and Journals are available in Library. Daily magazines are also available. Classes takes place in Online mode. But you can attend all the fests in offline mode. Marathons takes place on a regular basis. I am member of Wayanad house.

One should qualify JEE Mains or the exam conducted by IIT Madras itself as name of Quiz 1. One should qualify any one of these. You may apply by JEE Mains or IIT Madras DS website. Application Fees is 1500 for exam conducted by IIT Madras and Application fees for JEE Mains is 1200. Candidates get 50% waiver in fees (SC,ST only). No other benefits is provided on the basis of Caste System. Application acceptance needed to be more fast. Else everything Ok.
