Remarks

The freedom provided by the University can be very useful for the students to grow independent, but the same might spoil some who don't have self-control. This is the only bad thing which I can think of. Other than that I would say it's a wonderful

Entrance Preview

I took VITEEE, an entrance conducted by the University itself. It is very similar to AIEEE pattern-wise, but the difficulty level is slightly less than that. I got 5558th rank. However, this exam is required only for Engineering courses.MS - Software Engineering is a 5yr integrated course and it's a PG course. This course is now renamed to MTech Software Engineering. For this Course Board exam percentage in Physics, Chemistry and Maths were required. I got around 96% and was in the top 6 to join this course. The main reason for me to choose this course is to complete PG and to learn Engineering level courses.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum was designed wonderfully to train us in Software Engineering in particular. Software Engineering is not only coding but all the phases of it. Starting from Requirements, Design it teaches everything till testing and Maintenance. Each phase was given as a separate subject. Also, enough training in programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Php, HTML, CSS, and so on was also present. We were allowed to choose 7 electives in total. 5 were from our Program core which is related to Software and 2 were from anything provided in the university (Ex. Commerce, Banking, Bio-Chemical..)I choose Image Processing, Sensor networks, Biometric Systems, Data Warehousing as my electives. And it was quite useful. Apart from these, we had to do one mini-project and one major project in the final semester. These are included in the curriculum.

Internships Opportunities

For this course, there was no internship necessary. However few of my friends joined some places in their summer holidays for internships. University won't provide any assistance regarding internships. Students have to look for, on their own.

Placement Experience

5

One has to say that the placements are the highlight of VIT University. Maybe an example would explain better. Universities sometimes didn't allow some companies to recruit in the early days, just because those companies got bad feedback from the students. They have so many companies waiting to recruit their students. This gives them this freedom. Every year the number of students getting placed will increase. Approximately 70 - 80% of the students will get placed. That remaining 20 % might lose out because they might have had arrears. Of course, exceptions are always there.

College Events

5

There are two major fests in the University. Technical fest named Gravitas in odd semesters. A wide range of events will take place at this fest. Starting from Robotics to Modern UN. It'll be a great learning experience in these 3 days. The second one is the grand cultural fest, called Rivera in every even semester. It'll be for 4 days. All the cultural events possible will happen in these four days. Everyday night there will be pro shows which will be the highlight of the fest. Many celebrities rocked the stage over the five years I stayed. To name a few Kamal Hasan, Chiranjivi, Vikram, Karthick Sivakumar, Amala Paul, Drums Sivamani, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

VIT is known for its very high fees. But with the infrastructure and opportunities they provide, it's quite decent. Only the student who stayed there can experience it. Parents will definitely feel that the fee is very much expensive. But I'll say it's worth it. They also increase the fees every year. So it wouldn't matter if I say how much I paid.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are some scholarship programs provided by alumni students. It's based on the parent's income. However, I didn't avail any scholarship as such. So not sure about what's the limit and all that.

Campus Life

5

I had a wonderful college life. There is no difference between girls and boys. We used to sit together in classes. There will be no one to question you on this provided we stay on our limits. There was no dress code. Only during placements, we used to wear formal wear. Other days we used to be as free as we can. The sports department conducts tournaments for almost all sports every year. There are about 5 tennis courts, 1 swimming pool, 4 to 5 basketball courts, two volleyball courts, 1-foot ball ground and a 400m track which will also be used as cricket grounds for more than 20 teams at the same time, 2 gyms. So fitness wise you won't know which to choose. Regular workshops will be conducted in every department. However, I didn't attend any. I was only interested in Organizing them and did so.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostels are excellent. One should say it's home away from home. About rooms: There are single, double, 4 and 6 bedded rooms available both in AC and non-AC. A single bed won't be available for the freshers. Rooms should be taken care of by the students staying

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is very good. I get frequent emails about the happenings in and around the University. We can contact our University any time we want. If they treat the students very well while they stay, they treat them more when they become alumni.

Exam Structure

VIT is prone to change their exam structure every year. I have gone through at least 4 changes in my exam structure. Starting from the conventional exam, it changed to Project-based learning, and so on. However, I came to know that it's open book exams now.

Faculty

4.5

Our faculties were quite good. Unlike some colleges, every faculty at our University has to contribute to journals regularly. This keeps them updated and share their experience with us. They encourage practical application rather than mugging up some book st

Placement Experience:

From the last previous semester, students can avail themselves of campus interviews. Students who have Harriers are not given opportunities because it's in the companies criteria. Cognizant, Zoho, Infosys, Wipro. Every year at least 10 students get selected. Average is 10,000-15,000 per month 10-15% of students getting placed. I plan to study for competitive exams like UPSC.
