Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

I chose the course because I wanted to get into software development. The faculty student ratio is around 1:20. But every class has 60-65 people. Almost all the teachers have PhDs. But a lot of the teachers were incompetent and not up-to-date with the current technical scene. The term exams were moderately difficult. Every teacher made their own question papers, some being very straightforward and some being difficult. Only in rare cases were the exams too difficult to even pass the subject.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

There were a lot of companies to make a list of them. Some of them that I can remember are Microsoft, Google, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, HSBC, Citibank, HDFC, IBM and Axis Bank. Most of the companies came for SDE roles. They had an aptitude round, a coding round, and an interview at the end.

Placement Experience

3

We become eligible for placements from 7th semester. Hundreds of companies have visited our college for various roles since there are a lot of people in the college. These are companies like Microsoft, Motorq, Balkan that offer 50LPA+ to companies like Deloitte, TCS that offer 4-8LPA. Highest package this time was from MotorQ (89LPA with 24LPA base) and the average packages were around 9LPA Most of the students get placed in one company or another (around 90%) I am already placed in a trading firm through college (14LPA+) so I plan to continue with the job.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college has a category system where you could choose how much you are willing to pay for a course based on your rank. If your rank is 20,000 you could either get CSE in category 5 (5 lakhs fees), or ECE in category 2 (3 lakhs fees). There was a fees hike only in the hostel fees and mess fees (around 10% hike every 2 years). The hostel + mess fees would range from 70,000 rupees to 2,00,000 rupees based on your whether your room has AC or not, the number of beds in your room and based on your mess (veg/non veg/special). There was a scholarship for the students of Tamil Nadu which ensured they didn't have to pay their tuition fees. There were around 20-30 such students in every course. A similar scholarship scheme was there for Nepalese students. The top 100 rankers during the admission process also had their tuition fees waived. There were no other scholarships as such.

Campus Life

2

There are a total of 2 fests in VIT. The tech fest, "GraVITas" and the cultural fest "Riviera". Gravitas is held in September and Riviera is held in February. A series of hackathons named "Yantra" was also conducted in June this year. The college has a huge library with more than 10,000 books. Most of the books have their older versions in the library and a lot of them are irrelevant to the subject due to advancements in their fields. A sports fest called VITPL is conducted every year in April-May. Registration is free. VIT also has teams for cricket basketball and football but they only participate in local competitions. The classrooms don't have ACs (only the labs have ACs). The benches are like the ones you would find in a school. A few classrooms are cramped as well. Club culture is very prevalent in VIT. There are all types of clubs (dance, music, tech, public speaking etc.).There is also immense rivalry between clubs. However, the administration restricts the freedom sometimes

Hostel Facilities

2

The rooms had seperate study tables, chairs, closets and lamps above each table. We can call room cleaning/electrical maintenance whenever we want. Most of the rooms are cramped and have bunk beds with a few exceptions. Every hostel mess had it's own caterers. A few hostel messes were decent but a few were not. We can change our mess towards the end of the month based on the vacancies in each mess. Hostel registration is done every year based on cgpa. Students with high CGPA get hostels of their own choice and the ones with low CGPA get the remaining hostels. The rooms can be affordable based on the type of room. There are only a few PGs right outside the college. Renting PGs is allowed for final years.

Admission

The eligibility of the course was having a 60% aggregate in PCM in 12th standard. The application process was done through the official VIT website. Since I was from the COVID batch we did not have any entrance exam. We were admitted on the basis of our boards/JEE Mains marks but otherwise they have an entrance exam called VITEEE. I did not available any reservation benefits. The college does not have a reservation system. There could've been a few improvements in the admission process. It is usually online, but having it offline would have made it better and clearer.

Students can join job drives from the 7th term. Many firms visit the campus for jobs and offer roles in tech and other fields. The pay varies by firm and role. EEC has a good job rate and gives help for job prep. After my degree, I plan to work in the tech field and grow my skills.

Students are open to campus placements from 2nd year onwards. There are many companies who visit such as Delloite, Accenture, Cognizant, TCS, Amazon, NatWest, Nokia, etc. Highest package offered is 42 lpa and lowest is maybe 2-4lpa. Around 90% of students get placed here. My plans is to get a job through campus recruitment. Currently I got an internship through campus recruitment in Cognizant so the recruitment is quite nice here.

Placement Experience:

One thing I really need to appreciate at CIT is its placement training program. The placement team conducts regular sessions on 1. aptitude 2. coding 3. communication skills 4. group discussions and 5. interview preparation which helped me feel more confident during placements. The trainers were friendly and always encouraged us to improve our skills step by step. They provide continuous guidance and feedback throughout the training process. Mock interviews and one to one assessments helped me to understand my strength and weak areas and I work on improvements . These sessions not only improved my technical and communication skills but also boosted my confidence . The placement training team played an important role in preparing me for career opportunities and industry expectation

They focus heavily on communication , technical knowledge and competitive preparation ,align students with what top companies expect ,and contiuosly push us to improve and meet industry standards. Their structured training helped me to clearly identify my strengths and work on my weak areas, which made a huge difference during interviews and boosted my overall confidence. The department faculty are equally commnedable ,knowledgable ,approachable and genuinely invested in student career. Overall CIT is an excellent choice for anyone focused on building a strong and sucessful career
