VIT B.Tech IT FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech Information Technology and B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering at VIT?

Ans. B.Tech IT focuses on practical application of information technology, software development, and IT systems management. B.Tech CSE provides a broader foundation in computer science theory and engineering principles. IT is more application-oriented while CSE is more theory-oriented. Both programs have excellent placement opportunities but cater to different career paths.

Ques. Does VIT offer specializations within the IT program?

Ans. The core B.Tech IT program provides a broad foundation. However, VIT offers specialized B.Tech programs like CSE (AI & Data Engineering) and CSE (Cybersecurity) through SCORE. Students can also pursue electives in specific domains like AI, blockchain, IoT, and cloud computing within the IT curriculum.

Ques. What are the career prospects after completing B.Tech Information Technology from VIT?

Ans. Graduates work in diverse IT roles including software developer, web developer, data scientist, cybersecurity analyst, cloud architect, system analyst, database administrator, and IT consultant. VIT's strong placement record shows that IT graduates secure positions in top tech companies with competitive salaries ranging from 5-15 LPA for entry-level positions.

Ques. What programming languages are taught in the B.Tech IT program?

Ans. The program covers multiple programming languages including C, C++, Java, Python, and JavaScript. Students also learn web technologies, database programming, and scripting languages. The Programming Languages Lab at VIT features V-Propel, a custom-built interface for seamless programming experience.

Ques. Can I pursue higher studies after B.Tech IT from VIT?

Ans. Yes, VIT graduates can pursue M.Tech, MCA, or M.Sc programs in specialized IT domains. VIT also offers Integrated M.Tech programs and has strong research opportunities. Many graduates pursue higher education at top universities in India and abroad.

Ques. What is the Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS) and how does it benefit IT students?

Ans. FFCS allows students complete freedom to select their timetable, choose their preferred teachers, and select courses based on their interests (subject to minimum/maximum credit requirements). This system enables IT students to customize their learning experience, pursue interdisciplinary courses in AI, data science, or cybersecurity, and potentially finish their degree early or take extended projects in their final year.

VIT Vellore: 3 Answered Questions

Should I prefer MAIT or VIT Vellore for an IT branch?

MeghanaB.Tech IT student at VIT Vellore

I am a student of B.Tech IT at VIT Vellore. According to me, VIT Vellore is a better option for IT as compared to MAIT because of the following reasons-

VIT Vellore offers top class infrastructure and opportunities for its students. The campus is visited by top recruiting companies each year because of which IT placements are quite good for VIT. These companies offer good packages to students during placements. The college offers ample exposure to IT students in the form of internship offers, training offers, and student exchange programs. The IT companies that visit VIT Vellore for placements are- TCS, Wipro, Infosys, and Cognizant, among others.

Thus, I would recommend you join VIT Vellore for B.Tech IT instead of MAIT.

Is it worth leaving VIT IT for IIIT Guwahati ECE?

Shalini MitraElectronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati

If you think that you can work under technical giants later in years of study, then you should go for VIT. However, if you want to pursue your field of interest, and choose a likewise job scenario, then undoubtedly, you should enroll in IIIT Guwahati.

There are various differences between both the institutes for B.Tech ECE. Let’s walk through most of them:

Approaches of VIT:

  • VIT has a gigantic campus and is considered top-notch by students. You will most definitely enjoy your four years course period in VIT.
  • VIT, other than that, has balanced boys: girls ratio.
  • VIT is known to secure you a corporate job sooner than IIITG. This is seen at least in the current scheme.

The following table shows the placement statistics of both institutions:

Particulars

ECE at IIITG

Highest Salary

44 LPA

12 LPA

Average Salary

Approaches of IIITG:

  • IIIT Guwahati is comparatively a very new college.
  • The placement record is not 100%. If you however have the necessary abilities, it is only then that you will get placed. There are unfortunately no mass recruiters here, unlike VIT.
  • IIITG is renowned to motivate you to think and implement your theories in places not most people have thought of before. VIT clearly missed out on it.
  • You will find that the questions are seldom asked in IIITG examinations. In a nutshell, you are likely to find not any repeated questions in any course throughout the B.Tech course, unlike of course VIT.
  • IIITG tremendously focuses on the research sectors.

VIT is a reputed institute that is known to get you a job in the placement. If you’re willing to enter the job sector soon, join VIT.

Which is a better option college for CSE or IT - VIT Vellore or IIIT Allahabad?

Supriya Sarkar
Arindam ChakrabortyStudied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2018)

Considering this question, the first thing that can be highlighted is that both of these institutes cannot be compared at all. However, studying IT in IIIT Allahabad is far better as it offers several opportunities, as well as institutional environment and infrastructure to assist the student in their career growth appropriately.

However, CSE at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is not so secure considering the programming prospects and study culture that the student will get at IIITA. This choice is easy enough for the student to make as per their career perspectives.

The following table gives a brief overview of these two institutes:

Criteria

Thus, considering the above facts, it can be stated that between these two institutes, the student must go for IIIT Allahabad, as VIT can’t be compared at all.
