Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is based on the course offered by Madras University. The faculty members are really helpful and are always available to offer help both academically and generally. Microbiology is an in-demand course now, especially after the onset of Covid-19. The professors use both PowerPoint presentations and a blackboard to teach and the lab sessions are very good. We have 2-3 internal exams per semester for 6 semesters in total and a student that makes good use of all the available resources can score a really good CGPA very easily.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placements from the 5th semester and a lot of great companies visit the campus every year. Many students get placed every year and the highest package is around 4-5 Lakhs per annum.
Fees and Financial Aid
As I belong to the general category I did not receive any scholarships or financial assistance. But my peers belonging to different castes could get scholarships (based on mostly caste and also merit). The fees is nominal (Rs. 45000-50000 per year, for 3 years) and they charge exam fees and lab charges separately. Hostel charges were 100000 per year and included food charges.
Campus Life
We had cultural every year and other festival celebrations conducted in a grand manner all the time. There's a fine arts club and they conduct an event called Vriksha where students can showcase their talents in every field. And there's a sports meet too every year. Students could also attend the annual fests held by SRM University, which is just around the building. There are a wide range of books available in the library and students can access them whenever they want using their very own library cards (4 books per card, with 2 cards each). Students have also started an environment club this year and there are also a lot of NSS camps that happen.
Admission
Aspiring students must possess a minimum of 60% in their 12th board exams. Most courses in the SRM Arts and Science College do not require any entrance exams and your eligibility is based on the availability of seats and a good score in board exams. The application forms are available on the official SRM University website or you could directly visit the college during admission as a walk-in candidate. The application fees is around 600 rupees and the admission process happens very quickly. For students belonging to low-income families, there are a lot of scholarship opportunities they can apply to (applicable based on caste and merit).
