Remarks
The college authorities and management are very helpful. They consider several requests from students and solve therir problems. It is difficult sometimes to consider so many requests considering the large number of students in college, but a students association makes sure there is proper communication between students and administration.
Entrance Preview
I took 4 entrance examination: JEE-Mains, IP CET, BITSAT, and JEE-ADVANCED. I scored 198 in Mains and 98% in CBSE boards hence I got 1400 AIR in Mains. I got 6000+ rank in Advanced. My score in BITSAT was 296. Due to my good Mains rank, I got computer science in both DTU and NSIT. I chose DTU because I liked its campus very much compared to NSIT. Also, I had a couple of school seniors in DTU who gave me good reviews of college which made my decision even easier to chose DTU computer science.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum for Computer Science is good as it covers most of the fundamental concepts of computer engineering such as data structures, algorithms, operating systems, database management, the theory of computation, compiler design, object-oriented programming, and software engineering. However, the course lacks various latest technologies, languages, and frameworks such as artificial intelligence, data mining, machine learning, open GL, open CV etc. Students have to learn these things by themselves. Also, the quality and quantity of research projects available are not satisfactory. Also, although there are electives courses(2 per semester in the final year only), they were actually not electives since most courses were unavailable due to lack of faculty and students were forced to take a particular course only which kills the entire concept of an elective course.
Internships Opportunities
For internships, relatively less number of companies visit compared to placements. Around half batch gets an on-campus intern (again most common being software developer). Some of the companies that visit for both internship and full-timers are Amazon, Adobe, Microsoft, Flipkart, Direct, Deloitte, Samsung, Expedia, PwC etc. Generally 30-40l per month is provided by companies during 2 months summer internship. Directi and arcesium offer 75k per month. Some companies also provide accommodation in case of a different city.
Placement Experience
The placements for my batch were very good. More than 100 companies from various sectors visited the campus throughout the year. Almost entire batch is placed (almost because some students do not sit for placements due to higher studies). The highest domestic package was offered by Uber and Adobe (29 LPA CTC) followed by Amazon (27 LPA) while the lowest was 3.5 LPA (mass recruiters such as ibm and accenture). A few international offers were available too from Japan, Mexico, and Singapore. Most of the companies visit from IT sector that is for Software developer profile followed by analysts (both technical and non-tech). Companies from electronics, mechanical and civil background also visited in good numbers. Several startups with very good opportunities also visit the campus to hire talented students. Overall internships and placements are one of the best things about DTU.
College Events
The annual cultural fest Engifest is huge and it is awesome. It is one of the biggest events in Delhi and is very famous. People from several colleges attend the fest. Engifest consist of various events such as standup comedy, EDM night, concert night, western dance competiton, solo dance, singing, street dancing, plays, nukkad natak etc. Footfall during engifest is over 20000 per day(it is a 3-day event). Then there is a technical fest which organises several technical competitions related to programming, coding, robotics, case study etc. Apart from this there is a literary fest, sports fest, internship fairs, B-plan competitions, and several hackathons happening in a year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees for B.Tech. program is close to 1 Lakh rupees per annum (to be paid at the beginning of academic year). This fees however does not cover hostel or mess charges which are very nominal (10-15k) per semester. The fees is quite low and feasible compared to various private colleges. Also there are certain provisions/scholarships for financially weaker students.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
There is a scholarship plan where some percentage of fee is paid by the college. It is a caste and financial condition based scholarship. Also, merit based scholarship is available where top 3 rankers from each branch are provided with Rs10k per semester. The SBI bank inside the campus also provide very cheap education loans to DTU students.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is not up to the mark. There are branches where there are 100 boys and no girls while some have 20-30 girls for 100 boys. There are loads of workshops happenning all around the year on wide range of topics. There are several technical as well as cultural societies available to pursue your interests and hobbies and excel in them. People from various backgrounds, caste, religion, economic status are there in the college and everyone blends together very well. There is no discrimination inside campus. Violence in the name of politics is not present although there are people with different political beliefs.
Hostel Facilities
I was a day scholar so i can provide very less inputs on this. But what I have heard from my friends is that the hostels are overall clean. But there is acute shortage of hostels. It is very hard to get a hostel in DTU if you are from Delhi/NCR. Hostel rooms are availabel on tripple/double/single sharing depending on the year of study. Mess food is also decent with a lot of variety. During exams special night mess is also available to provide snacks at night too. Also, there are some PG available outside the campus with average rent about 15k per month including 3 time meals.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is very strong in DTU. Regular alumni meetups are organised in the college. Some of the well known alumni are Vijay Shekhar Sharma (founder Paytm), Sushan Singh Rajput (famous actor) etc. The seniors are also very helpful. They constantly guide freshers as to what to do in college to have a good profile/CV. They help with projects and research papers. Also seniors working in industry provide valuable inputs about the company and work culture everywhere. Senior Junior communication is very good in DTU.
Exam Structure
Generally, there are 6 theory subjects and 3-4 labs every semester. Classes happen regularly from 9-5 every Monday to Friday with not more than 1 lab per day. Labs are of 2 hours each. Days are not that hectic, one gets enough time to rest and study without much mental exhaustion. The beautiful campus also is a very good relax to mind and body. Exams are held twice every semester - one mid-sem and one end-sem. Mid semesters are worth 20 marks and cover 40-50% of entire syllabus while End semesters are worth 70 marks and cover entire syllabus. Remaining 10 marks are for assignments and attendance.
Admission
DTU and IIIT DELHI had a joint counseling/admission procedure known as JAC. Registrations had started 2-3 months before Mains exam. Once the Mains result was announced(int month of June), we had to fill our choices for courses we want. Within a week or so, First round list came where students were allotted courses as per choices filled by them. If not, they had to wait for subsequent lists for an upgrade in their choice. I got Computer science in DTU (my first choice) in 1st list itself, after which I freeze my course. Then students were called to the college campus to submit original documents such as mark sheets, address proofs and the fees(which was supposed to be paid via net banking or DD). the administration in college was very helpful. There were many volunteers present to solve various queries of students and parents regarding admission procedure. Most of the process of form filling and notifications was online and very smooth.
Faculty
This is one area where DTU lags behind. Quality of professors is not at all good. The new professors being hired do not have apt knowledge of the subject they are teaching. Some faculty just play and read the ppt available on the internet. However, there are some very good professors as well who have immense knowledge and teach very well in class. They also encourage students to take up several projects to add to their profile. Overall, if college improves recruitment of professors in next couple of years, then teaching standards in college will become one of the finest in India.
