Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course as I want to help the society. Also, biology always fascinated me and my parents encouraged me to pursue medicine Faculty: student ratio in my college is about 1:4 .Most of the faculty are MBBS qualified and have completed PG in their respective fields. Course curriculum is fine, most of the syllabus has to be studied by oneself on one's own or with external help as the faculty is not of much help. 3 internal exams are taken each year at an interval of about 3 months each after which the final university exams are taken. They are easy to pass if one studies 2 hours each day and a bit more before the exams.
Internships Opportunities
12 months of compulsory rotatory internship has to be done at the JSS Hospital after the 4.5-year course. The internship is very hectic with very long working hours and almost no holidays in the whole year. Before the internship, a provisional degree is awarded, while after completing the internship a full MBBS degree is awarded and license registration is done with the NMC.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is no fee hike. The fee is fixed at the beginning itself, for all 4.5 years of the course ( plus 1 year of internship ). The first-year total fee is 19,86,000 rupees. 18,88,500 rupees is the total fee for each of the following 3.5 years, not including the hostel fee ( which is about 1,50,000 rupees for 1 year ). I got no scholarship, no financial assistance, no campus job available. The full fee is being paid by my parents.
Campus Life
'Tatvam' is the annual fest, which takes place annually in July. Another fest takes place in September each year, called 'Asclepius'. The college library has quite a few books, journals are mainly available in our hospital library. Classrooms have fans, and ACs along with adequate seating. Smartboards are placed in each classroom. The campus has a football/cricket field, volleyball court, badminton court and a table tennis court where many extracurricular activities take place. Drama, fashion shows, and skits also take place in our auditorium. Many clubs are run by students, which include 'Labyrinth' - the quiz club, 'Myriad' - the dramatics club, 'Oculis iuris' - the forensic club, gaming clubs and many more clubs, which have their own Instagram and Facebook pages, run by students.
Admission
The admission process was very cumbersome. After giving NEET UG, Which had an application fee of about 1700 rupees and happens every year in May/June (application form and other details can be found at nta.nic.in website). The cut of for neet ug is 50 percentile, which is about 130/720 marks. For admission to the JSSMC MBBS Course, one must attain above 430/720 marks. In NEET counselling I had to give a security deposit of 2,05,000 rupees, of which 2,00,000 were later refunded. I scored 525 in NEET UG and was allotted JSSMCH, for which I had to again fill out a form on their website and pay 3500 rupees. I completed the offline admission process and again paid about 500 rupees there, again filled out some forms which the college management gave, had to get an affidavit made also, and my admission into the college was completed.
