Remarks
LDCE is a great college. It gives a positive vibes with it's lush green campus, a good canteen which serves delicious food at such low rates that students from other colleges come to eat there. It's fee structure is great, for the resources it provides. My overall experience has been great, I've made some good friends, the learning process has been fun because of these friends and faculties. One major highlight of our college is the LAA Garba hosted every year in which the whole city participates! It's a scene to behold!
Entrance Preview
To enter into LDCE, we have to appear for the JEE Mains Examination, that scored combined with your 12th Board results is used as a criteria for admission. You have to fill the form for ACPC , your ACPC rank is decided according to your cummulative score of JEE and Boards. College is assigned according to your rank. There is no interview process for admission. I wanted to pursue Engineering as I was always interested in Physics, I am currently pursuing Biomedical Engineering, it is a unique field and is still at a growing stage in India, therefore, it has alot of scope.
Course Curriculum Overview
Biomedical Engineering is a combination of Medical+Engineering. It basically combines electronics, communication and Biology. Very few colleges offer this branch of Engineering and LDCE is one of them. Practical Learning has always been the focus for this college. There are labs for each and every subject of each branch. There are two hours of Lab Sessions daily, experts are also called upon for some subjects. Industrial visits are organised once a year for more technical knowledge. Electives available are mainly technical, and related to the course, Rehabilitation Engineering, Disaster Management, Cyber Security are some of the electives offered for our stream.
Internships Opportunities
The college does not provide an internship, but students are allowed to do internships on there own. Faculties are supportive about it, and help to work at a good firm. Average stipend depends on the branch and companies you work at. Students also do unpaid internships to gain experience.
Placement Experience
The Placement Scenario is quite good compared to other Government colleges. About 50-60% students get placed every year. Big companies like L&T, Essar, ONGC, Wipro, HSBC come for campus placements. The average package is about 3-4.5lpa but it goes as high as 8lpa for some big companies. The placements are great for IT, CS, Mechanical, EC branches. But companies come for each and every branch.
College Events
The college hosts the state's most happening and biggest technical Festival that is the GTU TECHFEST. It also hosts it's own tech fest named Lakshya, which has an average footfall of around 6-7k students from all across the state. The technical events include workshops and events for each and every branch. New events like ATV championship, Quadcopter race etc. are organised. The Culfest of LDCE is Xitij, all GTU colleges actively participate in this. All the tests are organised by the students with the help and guidance of faculty coordinators. Last year's GTU Techfest was a massive success for our College as it showcased how well the engineers at our college are trained to manage and do technical work hand in hand.
Fee Structure And Facilities
If talking about Fees, LDCE is as good as it gets. The fees is a minimal amount of upto 550/- per semester. The maximum fees for boys is up to 1200/- per semester. Apart from that exam fees of 750-850l-is submitted for GTU Examinations. No extra money is ever asked in any form.
Fees and Financial Aid
With fees so low, there is hardly a need to take loans for our college fees. Also, the college keeps TFW category for the socially and economically backward class students, there fees is lowered to a great extent.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are given an amole amount of importantance as there are over 30 clubs in our college for different hobbies. Quiz Club Mindpalace for the Quizzers, Speaker's Club, Motorsports club, Vox Populi Magazine for the people interested in writing and designing the college magazine. You name an activity and there's a club to bring out your inner talent. There are offices provided for each club. The sports culture is also great with LD winning football and cricket championships almost every year. Other than that, badminton court, tennis court, volleyball court, cricket ground, Table Tennis room is also present.
Hostel Facilities
I am a local in Ahmedabad, so I didn't live in the hostel, but I have an idea about the hostels. They are 2-3 sharing rooms. The fees is minimal, and the hostel is assigned on the basis of your ACPC ranking. If your ranks good, you get the first preference for hostels. Hostel is a bit gloomy, as it's infrastructure is quite old. Girls hostel is better than the boys hostel in terms of infrastructure. The mess food quality is not good, so students prefer eating at our college canteen.
Alumni/Alumna
LDCE has a brilliant network of alumni. It has an LDCE alumni Association (LAA) which helps you to connect with all the alumni and get there details if needed to contact. They are available whenever in need.Any query regarding final year project or techfests they are at our rescue. They are amiable and visit us during the orientation to guide the new students.
Exam Structure
LDCE exam culture is a mix of 3 months of Chilling and 3 months of rigorous studying. There are no exams for the first three months, then the mid semester exams start, followed by Practical Lab exam, followed by GTU Examinations, then External or Internal Viva. The later three months are really hectic, as students are burdened with assignments and exams all at the same time. Assignment culture particularly is very tiresome. Writing some 500 pages of assignments each semester is very tedious work.
Faculty
The faculties at LDCE are highly qualified, most of them have completed there PhD and others have there Masters degree in there field. Faculties have minimum of 5 years experience. The Faculties try there best at interaction with the students, but the main problem that some non-gujarati students face is language barrier. Faculties feel comfortable conversing in Gujarati and teach well in there own language. This creates a problem for other students. The Standard of teaching can be scored as an 8/10. Faculties are good, there methods of teaching generally include Powerpoint presentations, and Lab sessions for better learning.
