The life of a Hippocratic Apprentice

My overall experience in the campus is quite good. According to me, there are some aspects on which the college can work upon or should improve. Gender discrimination in case of curfews should be taken care of. The college should provide a good platform for the student-alumni interaction. Food quality could do with a lot of improvement.

For getting enrolled in the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, I appeared for the NEET Examination. On the Final clearance of the NEET examination followed by a counselling procedure, I got eligible for taking admission in Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences. No interview process was followed for the admission process. It was just a merit based admission and the seats were allotted on the basis of the rank obtained in the NEET examination. Having keen interest in the field, I decided to get proceed with the Medical course.

The course is tough but interesting. Practical learning is of utmost importance. A great focus is put upon the practical learning with proper access to laboratories. To enhance the practical knowledge and potential of the students, research work, in each and every field, is also given a lot of importance.

The college is having very good and efficient communication networks with various companies providing internships. The college makes the students accessible to various internships for the welfare of the students. I personally got engaged in one of the internships provided by the college and the internships provided by the college has a fixed regular sum paid as a salary.

The placement scenario of the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences is quite impressive and progressive. With the years, the college has prospered in the field of placements to a great extent. Talking about the present scenario, the percentage of the students got placed is almost 100%, which is a huge success for the college. Quite major companies visit the college campus offering a huge amount of packages to the students.

A cultural,an academic and a sports fest are organised annually in the college with active participation of all the respected college authorities. For organizing all these events, a separate committee is being made who is responsible for the conduct of the events. The committee formed works with great efficiency and most of the financing is contributed by sponsors from outside.

Being a private college, the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences offers an affordable price to its students i.e. 1,00,000/- per annum. Since it’s very obvious that a private college will take a lot more fee as compared to a government college, so keeping this view, this college offers a less fee structure in comparison to other private medical colleges and hence it is affordable.

The college does not provide scholarships concerning any field. I personally do not owe any kind of scholarship. But yes, if some student, who is not financially strong, wants a loan for their educational fee, then our college have some kind of collaborations with a number of banks who assist and provide access to the students to get loan in order to pursue their studies without any difficulty.

In terms of extracurricular activities, I personally feel that the college provide ample opportunities to the students in order to bring out their inner talent in front of all. Many kind of extracurricular activities are encouraged especially during the respective festivals and other events. Apart from the college perspective, it also depend on us that how better we grab such kind of situations in order to explore our talent and i personally feel that college provides a lot of such opportunities.

I am residing in the hostel, inside the college premises, and shared three seater rooms with attached bathroom. All types of rooms whether single ones or shared, are available for the students. The college has their own hostels. They do not have any PG’s of their own. Now talking about the food part, the food is not very great in the sense of quality and taste.

It is very obvious that a good and a strong student-alumni interaction will contribute in the overall development of the college as well as the students. But our college does not provide a proper platform for such kind of interactions and so there is no significant amount of interaction of students with their alumni.

The exams and the labs are conducted in the college quite frequently. The duration of the exams is quite long and left us with complete exhaustion and fatigue. Although the labs and the exams are quite exhausting and painful but at the end they prove to be very effectual.

The teaching standard of the college is quite efficient and progressive. All the teaching faculty of different departments are well qualified from professionalized colleges and are very knowledgeable and pro in their field of department. They take active interest in student’s progress and learning. Till now my interaction with the teachers have been great. They have been guiding me from the first year
