What Students Say
Likes
- I liked how the faculty was ready to lend a hand whenever we needed it. They are always there to help you just have to reach out.
- Campus Life is also great. The amenities they provide, the seniors you meet are all great. Seniors are very friendly and encourage you always to try new things.
- Placements wise NITK is pretty decent. It is one of the tier-1 NITs. The placements achieved here are no joke.
Dislikes
- I didn't like the way some faculty members teach. They just do it for the name sale and leave. Most of them are not like this so it's all good.
- I didn't like how the swimming pool was left abandoned since COVID and was never restored while our fees was always including maintenance for the pool.
- I didn't like the fact that the student council openly asked every club to withdraw their posts that show support to LGBTQ+ community during Pride month since some students found it uncomfortable.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is thoroughly taught and executed. It is updated regularly to keep up with the times. I chose this course because computer science is a booming industry right now. Software engineers are needed everywhere. The faculty available is more than enough a rough ratio would be around 1:16. Most of the teachers have a doctorate in their respective branches and they have their own methods of teaching. Some of them are interesting while others bore me personally. Exams are conducted every 1.5 months including quizzes, mid sems, and end sems. They were not too easy but they were made keeping in mind to pass an average student.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are split into multiple categories. Starting from academics under the name Tuition fees. Other fees include for the mess, hostel, amenities like a sports complex, swimming pool, and maintenance. Also, you pay a small amount for festival celebrations which are pretty grand on campus. I don't have a scholarship but they are available for people in need. Financial assistance is provided provided you meet the criteria.
Campus Life
The annual fest is the Incident event. It's a cultural fest so it is pretty great. Lots of fun programs which include games, concerts, food stalls, dances, etc will keep you occupied on all three days. It is done in March. The tech fest is called Engineer. It is also a fun event with hackathons, a display of some works of all the clubs at NITK, some cool projects, robot wars, and DJ nights. It is conducted in October. Book availability in Library is pretty decent. Amenities in classrooms are also good. Projectors in every room for presentations. Sports and other activities can be pursued on campus. There are various groups and courts for each respective sport. There are a lot of clubs depending on your interests. There are technical clubs, hobby clubs, cultural clubs, etc. They are all mostly handled by students.
Admission
The competition for JEE is high as everyone knows. I got my admission to NITK through my JEE rank. Once the exam is done and results are announced a counseling procedure starts similar to the ones state colleges use. People are required to choose their options of colleges in a preference order and you are allotted the seat with your rank and preferences. All the forms are released online on the Josaa website. The only improvement I want is the removal of the reservation system. It is unfair seeing a person who got a very low percentile and still get to study in top colleges.
