Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is perfectly fine and it is moderately difficult for someone who got out of a CBSE school. Being a VTU-affiliated college, we get unnecessary subjects in our course like the Indian Constitution, Scientific Foundations of Health, etc. but those are tolerable. We even have Physics and Chemistry in 1st year and Biology in 2nd year. I am proud to say that despite all the things I have heard about this college, we all got good and knowledgeable faculty members. Some of these professors are over-qualified for this college, I have to say. I chose this course and college after a long time of college hunting. I would have preferred CSE but I took what I got. Doesn't matter much, as all courses are the same in 1st year, and CSE and ISE are from the same family. In my class, and all the other 1st year classes, we have 72-75 students per class. We have one class teacher, one HOD for each sem, and each student gets assigned a mentor. Everyone either has BTECH or MTECH or Ph.D.

Internships Opportunities

3

Since I'm in my first year, we don't get internship opportunities. But from the second year till the final year, the college will help you get internships. In 4th sem, you are encouraged to find yourself an internship opportunity but if you fail to get one, one of the college CoE (Centre of Excellence Research Centers) gives you one.

Placement Experience

3

Placements of our college are dropping or staying at the same level after covid. I know of many senoirs who didn't get placements at all and some of them got 4-6 lpa packages, even though they were from cse/ise branches with above 7 cgpa. For placement, you need to be in your final year i.e. 7/8th sems. Top companies, core companies, etc the big dogs do not come to our college. But we do get good companies like PhonePe etc. We get internships from 2nd year onwards till 4th year. Personally, I will try my best to get the best job offer in my year but if that doesn't happen, I will try for the GATE exam for MTech.

Fees and Financial Aid

So if you are someone who got this college from KCET and is a day scholar, then this college is more than enough for 4 years. But as someone who lives in the college hostel, I have to say that the fees are a bit too high. I pay around 150000 per year for a small-sized 2-sharing room. This is a bit costlier considering other equivalent colleges. I pay 90k as course fees are year as KCET fees and 21k as application fees to the college. We have 2 semesters per academic year and each sem end exam requires 1680 rs as exam fees. Considering all the little fees, and purchases, the total adds up over time. Our college provides on-campus placements as well as internships. Placements are in the 4th year while internships start in the 2nd year and go on till the 4th year. There are no on-campus jobs or anything for financial assistance. Our average placement package is around 4.8-5 lpa for cse/ise courses. Japanese companies visit every year with packages of 20-27 lpa.

Campus Life

4.5

Our campus size is small, as it's in the heart of the tech parts of the city, indeed a very expensive area! If you play any sports then this campus size may feel stifling but otherwise, it's good. We have grounds and parking and cool places to sit under shade when not having any classes. We have a 3-floor canteen area with an attached hangout place where you can sit and watch people play basketball. We have another canteen area surrounded by a Cafe Coffee Day outlet. Our annual fest in Cultura is amazing! It happens around June every year and each year it is a blast. We dance for 3-4 hours continuously and participate in this 2-day fest. Our library has a ton of books relating to the course subjects but a limited arsenal of novels, though that number is improving every sem. Our classrooms are equipped with projectors and large windows, making it an ideal learning area.

Hostel Facilities

1

I pay 1,50,000 for my two sharing rooms in the old boy's hostel of CMRIT. My room has no usable windows. We get two plug points, two tables, two chairs, two metal beds, two shelves, and two cupboards. We are not allowed to have kettles, induction cookers, egg boilers, or irons in the hostel but we bring them anyway. The food is moderate, but it gets boring fast. Every meal you'll be eating sambar and rice or chapati and daal only. We get nonveg twice a week, on Wednesday and Saturday. Our meal plans change every week and they rotate every 4 weeks. We get breakfast, lunch, snacks/tea, and dinner every day. The registration process for a hostel is smooth but they demand all the money upfront so that is a major drawback, It's more expensive than other better college hostels while the facilities and food quality are lesser. A major pro is it's inside the campus.

Admission

I took admission to the CMR Institute of Technology through the KCET exam in 2022. I am in the BE - Information Science and Engineering course, a batch of 2026. KCET provided me an opportunity to get admission to a good college like this in an affordable way, where I have to pay 90k per year as KCET fees and 21k as application fees directly to the college. The application process was a bit long and tedious as our exams and the kcet counseling had been delayed due to the then-ongoing case against KEA. So we a late admission than other private universities. But the admission and the application process went smoothly. If you're in Bengaluru, then it won't be a problem for you but if you live outside, you may need to visit the KEA office a few times. I got this seat in the 2nd extended round of KCET. I am a General Merit student, and I got the last seat in this course in this college according to the cutoff.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell is very active in our college. Every year more than 30+ companies come to our college for recruitment . Our seniors from 7th semester get placed in many companies and before getting placed in the company our college offers internships to every student. Around 80 % of the students get placed in companies and work efficiently. The average package for civil engineering is 2.5 lakh per annum.

Placement Experience:

RIT's placement scenario is very good, even for the most unpopular branches such as Civil Engineering. Starting from the 7th semester, students are allowed to participate in campus recruitment, and companies come to the campus for the entire final year. The major recruiting companies are L&T Construction, Shapoorji Pallonji, Brigade Group, Sobha Developers, Atkins, PWD, and Infosys for the non-core sector. Civil students on an average get ?5–6 LPA as salary, and the highest offer is usually in the range of ?12–15 LPA, depending on the company and the position. Almost 70–80% of Civil students are placed, while some of them go for higher studies or government examination.Site engineer, design engineer, planning engineer, survey engineer, and trainee engineer are the core positions that are offered. Also, non-traditional roles in IT and consulting can be taken up by those who are not interested in core engineering profiles.I will first acquire some work experience in the industry after completing my degree and then will pursue a master's degree in structural engineering to gain further specialization.

Students become elegible for placements from 7th sem onwards but we are encouraged to do internship before final itself. Most of the companies that come here aren't t1 or even t2. Highest probably would be 12L only if the student is exceptional but most would secure a package 4-6. And the percentage of students getting placed is <50%
