Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the course because the upcoming world is going to be taken over by Information Technology. Being in Computer Science and Engineering ensures job security and NITK has very good placements in CSE. The faculty: student ratio in my department is 80:1. All the faculties are Ph.D. holders. Their teaching methodology is so conveying.
Internships Opportunities
Students are eligible from the 5th semester to apply for internships. There are many big MNCs where students apply for internships. Some of the companies give stipends also based on the work of the students. Some of them get pre-placement opportunities based on their internship in the company.
Placement Experience
The placements of all the branches of NITK are actually very good. The placements season starts in the month of August. The students are eligible to take part in an on-campus recruitment drive from the 7th sem. For B.Tech. all the courses around 92% of students got placed this year. The highest package was 54 LPA and the average package was 12 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The institute fees for B.Tech. for 4 years is approx. 500,000/- INR and along with this hostel fees for 4 years is approx. 400,000/- INR. There are some fee-waiving policies also there in the institute. The economically backward students whose family income is less than 1 lac per annum get 100% fees remission. There are some scholarships provided by the institute itself based on the rank of the entrance exam.
Campus Life
The annual cultural fest of NITK is Incident which is celebrated in the month of March. The annual technical festival of NITK is Engineer which is celebrated in the month of October. There is one online library exclusively for NITK students which has lots of journals, books, and research papers. There is one NITK website named IRIS which is created by the IRIS team of NITK. All the course registrations and grade card displays are done on this website only.
Hostel Facilities
In each room, there is one study table, one chair, one cupboard, one LAN port, and one coat. Mess food is of average quality but delicious. The registration process for hostel allotment is done online on the website of NITK-IRIS.
Admission
The eligibility for the B.Tech. course in National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is that a student must have passed 12 th class with at least 75% marks. Along with that, the student should qualify for JEE Mains exams conducted by NTA. The application form can be found on the website of NTA. The application fee for one session of JEE mains exam is 750 rupees. There are category-wise and home-state reservation benefits.
