Course Curriculum Overview
I chose B.Tech in Biotechnology as I was fascinated to learn about various biological advancements and technology to make life sciences better. There are about 49 students in our batch and around 20 faculties. So it's nearly 2-3 students per teacher. The course curriculum is pretty well designed to make sure a student gains practical experiences of theoretical subjects learned through various lab works on the subject. In the first year, every student goes through the same curriculum and then from 2nd year onwards, it's divided according to branches. The faculty members are well qualified and supportive of post-doc fellowships from reputed foreign institutions. There are two exams per semester and two semesters in an academic year. The mid-sem consists of 30% marks, end sem 50% marks, and 20% marks are through faculty in the form of Teaching assessment marks. Grades are provided according to the final marks secured. The course is balanced and good grades can be achieved through consistency.
Internships Opportunities
Internship session starts at the end of the 4th semester and people go for internships after the 6th semester. Various reputed companies come during the internship season and provide good stipends which are skyrocketing at times. Companies include Barclays, salesforce, reliance, BCG, JSW, TATA, etc. The training and placement committee generally trains students in various interested domains to make them prepared for the upcoming internships through regular practice tests, GDs, Mock tests, etc. There are also off-campus internship opportunities availed by various students in reputed research institutions of the country like SURGE, SPARK, JNCASR, etc. Various roles include research associate, consultancy intern, web developer, software developer intern, machine learning engineer, industrial trainee, etc. The average stipend is around rs 30000 per month and the highest is rs 120000 per month. There are regular sessions organized by industry experts too for better insights into internship preparation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fee is around rs 80000 per semester and the mess fee is 20000 per semester. There is financial assistance provided to students who have a net family income of less than 1 lakh. Other kinds of scholarships can be availed through various companies that conduct regular scholarship tests and hackathons. There is an SBI Scholar loan available to study here at very low-interest rates. One can avail of the loans by showing proof of admission. Internships are provided to students after 3rd year which gives a hefty stipend of 30000-125000 per month. Placements are pretty good here and the training and placement cells give regular opportunities to train and keep updated about various internships, placements, and scholarship processes. Research and Ph.D. grant is provided to research scholars. Certain scholarships are also provided by ministries of government like oil, gas, construction, etc. Merit scholarships are also provided by various private organizations on the basis of academic excellence.
Campus Life
Campus life is really happening here with numerous clubs, fests, and events for various activities. Every month there is some or other activity happening by a club to give some time off from studies. There are majorly three fests named Innovision which is the largest techno-management fest, cosmopolitan which is the multi-ethnic fest and nitrutsav which is the cultural fest. There is a celebrity night also every year where a prominent singer comes to perform. Club culture is one of the best here, one can find any club starting from aero modeling to robotics to maths to coding, etc. Sports infrastructure is well developed and there is an institute team for almost every sport also there is an annual fest named Vriddhi held every year. Monday Morning is the largest student-run journalist body of NITR which acts as a media between students and management. Classrooms are very comfortable and well equipped here with large spacious infrastructures. There is a large library with books, journals, etc.
