Remarks
The campus is huge, 750 acres of land within the college but it is all covered by trees. We have plenty of insects creeping our room. We can see forest everywhere. Good remark about the college is that we have great environment. Bad remarks remains the faculties of the college and of course the mess food we get.
Entrance Preview
I cleared JEE Mains to land up at BIT Mesra, the whole process of selecting the colleges and preferences was done online but we had to go to the nearby centre for the counselling process.
Course Curriculum Overview
I am currently pursuing chemical engineering at BIT Mesra. The course curriculum is not an easy one, we mostly get to know about reactors, pumps and the industrial manufacturing process of certain products. We are also taught about Polymers. The main aim of a chemical engineer is to give the maximum efficiency out of an industrial process. Chemical engineers design setups that aims on the eco friendly production (as much as possible), economical and maximum efficiency of the process. The course I chose has a wide scope abroad and can land you in a decent job in India as well but let me clarify that it is not so easy to get a core placement. Only 3-4 core companies at max visit for chemical engineers here. One or two IT companies allow the students of chemical engineering to sit for the placements here. Some consultant companies allow us. Regarding the research, we have a great opportunity to continue with research as we have great laboratory setups. You also get to learn French/German as an Elective.
Internships Opportunities
College provides an internship, the companies offering pre placement offers provides paid internship, average stipend amount generally is around 10,000
Placement Experience
Placement of the CSE, ECE, is awesome, more than 90% of the people of these branches get placed. EEE IT has also good figures in terms of placement but Civil, Chemical, chemical and Polymer, production and biotechnology placement is up to 50% at max. Last year 40% students of chemical engineering were placed.
College Events
We have awesome cultural fests here named bitotsav and technical fest pantheon. During cultural fests we have competitions, games, dance night, dj night, literary night and pro night which consists of some celebrity. Last year Sunidhi Chauhan came to entertain us. We also have sports fest Named Vajra where students from the college participate and set new records within the college. Students from the core team formed for the cultural fest (bitotsav) bring the sponsors for the fest. Also a sum of INR 800 gets deducted from every student's mess account for the fest. College's authoritiy doesn't contribute much for the fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure varies from year to year. For the first year the total fee was approximately INR 2,50,000 (Including fee, mess, hostel and security money), in second year the fee was approximately INR 2,40,000 (Including college fee and mess and hostel fee) In third year the fee with the above mentioned was approximately INR 2,45,000 and in last year we need to pay approximately 2,60, 000. Do keep in mind the fee structure is different for different batches and the fee increases generally for the coming batches. The current joining batches pays approximately 2,70,000+ on an average per year.
Fees and Financial Aid
College provides 25% of scholarship to students scoring above 8.5 GPA and 50% to above 9 GPA. There are only a few who avail this because college has strict grading system.
Campus Life
To explore the inner talent we have various clubs for photography, dance, music, literature and sports. Talking about the facilities I can say that we have average facility for these activities.
Hostel Facilities
For the first year we were provided shared rooms but for the rest of the years we are given single rooms. The room's conditions are pathetic, but for girls, they have well furnished rooms but they are provided rooms with sharing. Hostel is compulsory for the students and you need to provide a valid reason with the parents consent to stay outside. Regarding the food, I can say the food is pathetic. It depends from hostel to hostel, in one hostel you get tasty food once a week, in others you get average food. Like in my previous hostel I got delicious biryani on Wednesdays but awful food on rest of the days. And in the present hostel we have better food on average but not so tasty. We get non veg thrice a week only at dinner which comprises of chicken curry on Sundays, biryani on Wednesdays and Egg curry on Friday. Paneer and special items for the vegetarians are given on this day only.
Alumni/Alumna
There is no Alumni interaction within our college. College also doesn't organises Alumni meets or a proper student alumni interaction.
Exam Structure
The exams are not so frequent but the labs are frequent and schedules are quite tiring. My title saying "not so easy" is purely based on the time we get after college. We need to write lab reports almost every alternate day and it is really tiring. Also we get assignments from time to time. The class timing is from 8 in the morning to 5:10 in the eve. We can have any amount of break in between, as the class schedule is set. But generally we have one half off once a week and 2 hour lunch gap.
Faculty
We have a wide range of faculties coming from different places but personally I am not satisfied with the quality of teaching in the college. The facilities do not deliver as expected. They just teach their portion and do not bother about the students individual progress. Also the quality of teaching is not up to the mark.
