Remarks

Every undergraduate student gets Rs. 3000 credited for the books bought every semester under the scheme of "book grant". And library provides textbooks to all students at the start of the sem and collects them back after end sem exams. This is the only space university in entire India. So you will leave the campus with a unique degree and get a tag of scientist if you get placed in ISRO even if you work very less there.

Entrance Preview

I got selected for this college by my JEE-MAINS rank which is 4040.We have to apply for this admissions seperately through IIST website. We should also be qualified fro JEE-ADVANCED also which is also a elibility criteria. For present admission procedure check IIST website

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Being an avionics student I can speak for it.It has a very well designed curriculum which can help us to choose either electronics or electrical or computer science or communication engineering in future ' The curriculum which was set up by the admin is very good but teachers don't get enough time to complete it. The curriculum for labs and theory classes will be out of order sometimes. In some labs, we perform experiments without even having the basic concepts.

Internships Opportunities

here is a compulsory 2-month internship which is a part of the 6th semester. Almost 50% of the students do their internship inside the campus itself. Remaining do their project in ISRO centers and some other colleges. The college will be paying for their accommodation. It will be around Rs. 8000. Every year, the topper from each branch will get a chance to do internship in CalTech. They will also get a chance to pursue their masters there itself. (Only toppers). For the second and first years, they can apply for any internship outside, the faculty will surely give a positive report about your performance. IIST has its own rocket that will be designed by the students and manufactured by ISRO. It has successfully launched one and intense work is being done for the next version. IIST also makes students design nano satellites. Everyone can put their contribution to these.

Placement Experience

4

ISRO will is the main (only one till now) which is hiring us due to the agreement that if we secure a CGPA greater than 7.5 we have to work for ISRO fro 3 years. If we get placed there we will recieve a bacsic pay of Rs.21000 per month according to central govt scale. We get something around 70k will all the allowances. But in recent times a few sophisticated companies like Adobe,Mathworks,Mercedes Benz and few more have conducted placement sessions and hired M.Tech students. Now the placement cell is working very actively.

College Events

3.5

Dhanak is a cultural fest, but here, you won't find any students at all in some events. It is a very poor fest compared to IITs and NITs Conscientia is a technical fest. It is somewhat good. College being in the southern corner of India which don't have any other cities close to Trivandram having good engineering colleges there will be less footfall and so spending much on these will be a darer task and so the quality of these will also be degraded. But for such a few number of people it is amazing .

Fee Structure And Facilities

The semester fees is 48400 which is very nominal compared to many colleges of of this standards The students who secure a GPA of 7.5 will get a scholarship of Rs. 48400 (entire semester fees) from department of space(DOS).But getting 7.5 is easy for some semesters but not all.You can always expect the unexpected in here. You have to pay if you don't secure 7.5 then you have to pay your fees and you can get education loan from any bank .There is Union Bank of India in the campus itself and will sanction you loan after making you suffer a bit. M.tech students will get the pay by UGC Rs.12000 (not sure) for securing seat through GATE.

Fees and Financial Aid

Campus Life

4.5

In any college campus life depends on what you will be choosing. We do have inferior facilities but a positive from here is there are less number of people to use them.So we can make our lives interesting in the campus which have a uneven landscape which is full of greenery. People who are just familiar with the art can shine very well in the campus due to less strength.Even you can start your alphabets here and can do great. IIST has some of the India's best labs. They are such good that they alone earned a place in top 10 engineering colleges in India which then had less campus selections and was very closed. Sports and extracurricular activities are less and you can put your finger in everything whatever is present here as there will be less competition. We organise workshops by specialised persons and are more related to space elements and sometimes robotics and software applications.

Hostel Facilities

4

The campus is located in the God's own country with greens and rubber plantations all around. It is located in a hilly area 30 km away from Thiruvananthapuram. The campus is not very old and is still under construction due to the never-ending labour issues in Kerala. There are 13 hostels in the campus out of which 4 are for girls and one for hostel services and rest for males. The rooms will be modernly designed and have very good electric and water facilities. We will get a good speed of WiFi for the non college hours. The food will be served half portion in south Indian style and another half in north Indian style,

Alumni/Alumna

Most of our alumni are in ISRO centers at present and we will be accompanying them even after we get job, which means we almost knew our future colleagues now itself. If they weren't placed at ISRO they generally chose GATE and then further studies. People who left ISRO after their bond period joined MBA or any other startup or MNC and they re putting their best for the placement cell.

Exam Structure

For B.Tech students there will two internals namely quizzes which constitute for 30% of your score. And 20% of your marks will be in hands of faculty which will be given by conducting test or any project or assignments.Rest of the 50% of marks will be from end semester exams. For Aerospace and Engg Physics people will have less number of lab sessions and need to do nothing in labs. For Avionics there will be 4 labs per weeks which makes feel frustrated sometimes.

Admission

There will counselling separately for IIST. You will privilege to enter an ISRO center fro attending counselling which is almost impossible until you work there. There will several rounds same as JEE counselling but here only options are you seat confirmation and if confirmed your branch. It will not be a heavy work to go through this counselling.

Faculty

4.5

It has some of the best faculties in India. All of them have PhDs and mostly are from IITs and foreign colleges. They will be very helpful. Some of them may not be good at teaching but you can extract what you want from them for your projects and courses. Half of them are well experienced and remaining have 4-6 years experience. There are more than 80 professors in the campus which merely has 600 students.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell of the college is very active. You can get internships starting 2nd year and placements starting 3rd year. About 75% of people get placed. Many MNCs like Texas Instruments are consistent hirers. The highest package of 2025 for my course is 1 crpa. The average is about 7 lpa. A student can get 5,6 offers. I plan on higher studies abroad because I want to learn more in-depth about the course.

Placements are really good. Since college is related to ISRO maximum students with cgpa above than 7 are elligible for ISRO interviews and are selected based on their performance. Apart from ISRO many campanies like Texas Instruments, UTS, Mercedez , also come here for recruuitment. Many also opt for M.tech and MBA after graduation

Students are eligible for placement from the 7th semester and internship from 3rd semester. You can apply for internship on your own right from first semester but college gives aid from 3rd semester. The major recruiter is ISRO which offers 40-45 jobs for aerospace engineering. Also other companies like CDac Airbus Boeing and DRDO and HAL visit for recruitment. Nearly 85-90% students get placed while some opt for Higher education and research too. My primary goal is to get into ISRO also I will be preparing for gate examination to complete my IIT dream.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I was never interested in engineering. I passed KEAM entrance exam. So my parents forced me to become an engineer. Since I was interested, I thought food technology might be a good branch in engineering. So I got admission in KUFOS through allotment. The course is actually good . In the 1st year, you study basic engineering, 2nd year onwards food related courses are taught. If you are a student who only have the intention to study you will find this college easy to adjust. They provide all facilities to study. There is no particular frequency for a semester. Even though academic calender is there for each batch it is not followed properly. In this college the course may last upto 4.5 years. Due to this reason the students ask the management to cut shot semester breaks so that they won't loose 1 year.

The most special thing about the college is those memorable friendships with the faculties whos understand students very well.
