Remarks
So all and all the college is amazing. Good facilities, too many events, placements are amazing. If you stay in this college for 4 years, you'll grow for sure. (Technically as well as non technically) The wonderful thing is that the college hours are less as compared to other colleges because of its autonomy. A well managed and organised college.
Entrance Preview
I gave CET Entrance examination for this course. I scored 148/200 marks in this exam and I opted for this college as this is one of the most reputed and prestigious colleges in Pune as well as Maharashtra. Also, some of my seniors recommended this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is good enough that you gain good technical expertise in your field. There are these mini projects for every semester starting from semester 1. Then there are electives which allow you to select any one of the elective out of a particular set. So you can choose subjects of your interest and go ahead.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, my college provides internships. General stipend that students get is around 20K that I have noticed. And a positive thing about my college is it is autonomous because of which they allow students to go to full time internships for one of the last two semesters. Here are some of the companies that have come for internships : NVIDIA - 30K Goldman Sachs - 25K Barclays : 60K Ubisoft - 15K
Placement Experience
Placement in VIT is really good. There are various job opportunities from this college. But placement opportunities for COMP/IT and Electronics departments are more than the other branches. Around 130-140 companies come in an academic year for college placements. Some of the renowned companies : Goldman Sachs - 16LPA Amazon - 27LPA NVIDIA - 15LPA Morgan Stanley - 15LPA HSBC - 14LPA AVAYA - 11LPA SAP Labs - 10LPA Cadence - 9.5LPA Barclays - 8LPA
College Events
There are many events that are celebrated in college. 1. Vishwakarnadak - Mixed event (Technical, Sports, Extra-curricular, Arts). This is inter departmental event fought between different departments. So students from similar departments come together and work hard in their events to support their department and have fun plus learn. 2. Melange - Mixed Event. Now this is inter college event for students all around India. Here students in VIT work hard for their events to fight for the pride. There are different events like Footloos, VROCK (Dance and Music), Robo fight (Technical), Cricket, football and much more. 3. TedXVIT - Event for Ted Talks. 4. Internship Mela - Students from VEDC (entrepreneurship club) work to bring different start ups from different cities to provide internships for Students all around India. 5. Vishwotsav - Gathering kind of event
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is average if compared to the colleges in Pune and Mumbai. Here is the list of fees for different categories in the academic year 2017-2018 1 Open - 135,255 2 TFWS - 12,528 3 VJDT/NT/SBC - 12,528 4 ST - 14,648 5 SC - 4,255 6 OBC / EBC - 73,892
Fees and Financial Aid
I don't know of any scholarship as such but there is this facility for OPEN category students who are not that financially stable. This facility is TFWS which is Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme where is the family income of student is less than 4.5 LPA and student has opted for it then based on the merit, students get allotted in this quota. This scheme reduces tuition fee amount from your total fees. In VIT, tuition fee is around 1lakh
Campus Life
The campus life in VIT is amazing as it is. Its a small campus but you will find everything there. Being a small campus, students have a good connection with students from other departments as well. The community is good. There are places in college for food like canteen, New poona bakery, nescafe, fruit centre. Students from other countries also come here. There is no discrimination at all based on anything let it be race, gender and whatever. You'll love to go back to that college life even after you are an alumni now
Hostel Facilities
VIT owned a hostel till year 2014. After that the property was sold out. But there are some private hostels around the college area where students can be accommodated. There are a lot of PG services as well around that area. But students mostly tend to live in the rented apartments. The average rent students pay is around 3.5K Regarding mess, as there is no hostel there will be no mess. But there are many places where students go and get pocket friendly food. Or some students living in rented apartments have maid.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is nice in VIT. There are some seminars held by the management in search of making students understand the outside experiences. As the campus is not huge or something, students from other departments collaborate with each other quite often plus because of the various activities happening in college, students are well connected with each other. And there are ted talks as well that take place in TedXVIT event
Exam Structure
The exam structure till 2016-17 academic year was a bit different than it is now. It is divided into three sections Earlier : Class Test (Unit 1)(Written 30 marks) Mid Sem (Unit 2 and 3)(Online MCQs 20marks) End Sem (Unit 1-5)(Written 100 Marks) Now : Class Test (Unit 1)(Written 30 marks) Mid Sem (Unit 1- 3)(Written 100 Marks) End Sem (Unit 4-6)(Written 100 Marks) And it's not like students don't get much time out from the academics and exams. Exams are arranged at proper time giving students their time for other things that they want to do. So overall the exams are not chilled out at the same time they are not too stressful either. Quite on the balanced side.
Admission
First you need to fill the form at the nearest allotted center. Then there are these online CAP rounds on this website which rank you and allot colleges to you based on your score details and your preferences. There are different CAP rounds which give you flexibility to change allotted college if you feel you can get better college in next round.
Faculty
About the faculty, I would say that it's good but we (India) need to transform now.We need to shift from those old, boring theoretical practices towards the practical approach. Instead of focusing more on fitting and filling information inside student's mind, we should start showing the students how these theories are implemented and used in today's practical applications. But overall I would say the teachers are good and there are regular lectures but a little different approach can help a lot.
