Remarks

It was disappointing that there wasn't active research going on in the physics department. Nonetheless, they do encourage you to start research of your own and will provide the funds necessary if you need any. The college on the whole is good.

Entrance Preview

I chose the course because I've always been passionate about physics and I aspire to become a theoretical physicist. Admission done on the basis marks scored in 12th board exams. I scored 85.33%. For people with score below 80%, an online application needs to be filled and for people above 80%, a walk-in interview will suffice. The interview tests for your communication skills, character, academic record, Co circular record and your extra curricular record.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is great and the faculty is really good too. As far as physics is concerned, there isn't much theoretical or experimental research going on. We do have a radio telescope and a normal telescope using which we do conduct research on the activity of soon and make astronomical observations.

Internships Opportunities

They do provide internships. But since it is my first year there, I do not know much about it yet. Word is that we have a really good placement cell. But people usually opt for higher studies right after bsc. So there isn't much data there.

Placement Experience

4.5

We have a great placement cell. But the stats are less owing to the fact that most students opt for higher studies just after completing the course. The companies that do come in are well known ones. They usually offer a decent package. The average package for people who do get a job is around Rs 1.5 lacks per annum.

College Events

4.5

The college hosts 4 major festivals in a year. They are quite big. These festivals are mainly extra curricular oriented. Apart from this, we have management festivals organized by the humanities block. The arts block holds festivals too. Each department of each block has its own festival. Participation is encouraged for outsiders as well.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees are extremely cheap. The college is partly government funded. Because of this, the fees are quite feasible. It cost me Rs 29000 per year. There are friends that pay Rs 40000 too. The tuition fees for me cost Rs 27000. This is the basic fee. The better your interview goes and the more your 12th board marks, the lesser your fees. On top of the tuition fees, we need to pay around Rs 2000 for sports, college maintenance and other miscellaneous charges. Wherever your fee comes out to be, you call avail scholarships based on need and merit.

Fees and Financial Aid

Waivers are given for economically backward class. Waivers are also given for merit students. There are plenty of scholarship schemes present. The college has a tie up with 'South Indian Bank' which makes it all the more easy to get loans.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel is a great place to be. The curfew is 8 pm and can be extended with permission. Has fast WiFi connectivity. The hostel is 4 storied and has clean rooms. It's not very luxurious and has only necessary and basic amenities. Hot water can be a problem in the morning if you don't get up early. The mess food is good and the kitchens are quite clean. Again, the food is basic but it doesn't disturb your balanced diet. The rooms generally have two beds, study tables and two cupboards each. Two people can stay in a room. You get to have a single room in your third year. All in all, it has enough to make you feel home.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very helpful. The college has a good aura about it and the seniors definitely are a great part of it. There is absolutely no ragging that takes place. The seniors help with all our research projects since we are first years and it's the first time we've been involved in research.

Exam Structure

The exams are quite rigorous. We are judged on continues assessments. We are given assignments on a weekly basis. Your final gpa is a factor of your lab marks, semester finals, mid-semester exams, internals and attendance. The labs are very frequent. We have classes for around 7 hours on average per day. This changes with the courses you opt.

Admission

The admission notification was released in the second week of April. I did not require a form and had a walk-in interview since my marks were above 80%. The administration was really nice. I got my admission done the same day. The principal was especially a nice man. The fee collected too, is solely based on merit and your interview which is a good thing.

Faculty

3.5

Great faculty for the most part. Most are PhDs. They try to involve everyone and are usually very enthusiastic about teaching. The faculty for mathematics and chemistry is one of the best in India. However the same can't be said about physics. Although they are good teachers, they are not really the best on the field.

Students become eligible from the 5th semester. The university also conducts placement drives and skill development workshops. Out of the various companies, some of the reputed ones include Goldman Sachs, KPMG, EY, Deloitte, De Shaw, etc. The average package is around 7 to 8 lakhs but 60% students opt out from placements for further education. I plan to study a master's degree in business economics after my undergraduate studies.

Most of the students after completing four years, continue to stay here to get Masters degree after one more year and pursue PhD from world renowned institutions. Very few people (<7/100) per batch will sit for campus placements and most of them will be selected with a good annual package of 30000 at an average. Some students, mostly Physocs majors can give government exams like ICRB, GATE to join ISRO and BARC as scientists
