Remarks

Management should trust the students more. A bit more autonomy will make them bold and prepare them for future life situations.

Entrance Preview

AIEEE AIR - 10847 I wanted Mechanical Engineering branch. It was available in NIT Raipur so took it.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

It was very detailed but at the very same time it looked dated. I appreciate the importance of going through the basics but going through the evolutionary steps in full detail just marred the interest whatsoever in the subject and reduced it to a simple process of memorizing stuff and reproducing in the exam. Some courses were new and exciting. The initiative and intent to overhaul the curriculum was there but the pace left much to be wanted.

Internships Opportunities

No, atleast not when I used to study there. We had to find places for internship on our own. We could reach out to professors for industry connect and leads but there was no official process.

Placement Experience

3.5

Great. Atleast for core branches with PSUs and lot of Automobile opportunities it was at par with the best of colleges. Among PSUs, all maharatnas and navratnas would come and were more of a mass-recruiter for us offering packages to the tune of 10LPA(then). There was also a long list of Auto majors visiting the campus offering packages in the range of of 5-6LPA.

College Events

3.5

1) Cultural fest - Eclectika 2) Tech Fest 3) Sports fest 4) E-cell used to do something on entreprenuership 5) Branch level tech fests - Mechanical, Electrical, Civil 6) Go Green committee used to have something on environment Its been some time and so I don't remember the names of most of them.

Fee Structure And Facilities

One of the lowest in India.I do not remember the exact details but roughly it would cost 1 lakh per year ( 2 semesters) including hostel & college fees. At that time, there was a variance between fees of different NITs, however it was rationalized later.

Fees and Financial Aid

OPJEMS & DAAD were the two popular ones. OPJEMS was for the top 20 of any batch. DAAD was for internship with a foreign university. I did not qualify for OPJEMS and wasn't interested in DAAD, so won't be able to share much info on that.

Campus Life

3.5

It was a chilled out place. If you want to study, go study. If not, you can still survive and sail through smoothly. It was more of a place to figure out what you like and not what you should be doing. Most people would say strong relationships/friendships was the biggest boost the college provide to their life.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel rooms were big bit due to sudden increase in the student intake 3-sharing rooms were made 4-sharing on ad-hoc basis. The construction for a 800-seater new hostel started when i was in 3rd year. It must be completed by now (haven't visited since then), so things must be changed by now.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni connect wasn't very strong. There were some initiatives on that front but it was too little and too late. Seniors were very approachable and helpful on almost everything one may need to know.

Exam Structure

Semester wise pattern - Each semester has a total of 6 subjects. Each subject has a theoretical maximum of 1000 marks on offer with about even split between internal marks of practicals & projects and written end-of-semester papers. Long gaps during exams led to a chilled out environment for preparations. Labs were very adequately distributed in the calendar

Admission

1) Notification released in leading newspapers. Also, buzz makes one aware of important exams. 2) Forms were purchased from local bookstores 3) Forms were filled & sent to Delhi office of CBSE 4) Recived Admit card for written examination 5) AIEEE - Written Exam 6) Central Counselling at NIT Allahabad [Home State] 7) Reporting and document verification at NIT Raipur [Allotted college]

Faculty

3

Some were undoubtedly the best of the pack one could find. With there years of experience in the field, the depth of knowledge was palpable and awe-inspiring. However, for some subjects, it was more of a formality with professors with no experience taking full responsibility of the subject. It was a game of chance wherein sometimes we got lucky with passionate young professors, while at other times it was a mere chore to attend classes

Placement Experience:

Final year students are eligible to appear for campus placements which starts towards the end of their 7th semester. Companies that visited for Civil Engineering: L&T, Adani, Stratview Research, PlanetSpark and several local firms. The highest packages were offered by Adani (approx 7 LPA) and L&T (6-7 LPA). Around 5-7 students received placement offers from the mentioned companies. It is important to note that a lot many students did not sit for campus placements as they had different career aspirations (government jobs, higher education, business ventures etc.) My plans were to prepare for upcoming competitive government exams as well as try my hand at something different and creative

1. Students from seventt semester and onwards are eligible for the campus placements. 2. There are ample numbers of comapnies visited in our college like schneider electric, bpcl, bhel, bhel, reliance, catterpillar, eil, and so on. As per the last year data around 130 comapnies made in to our campus and they offered around 800 plus offers to various studenst of different departments. 3. The highets package offered this year is 60 lakhs that is offered by DE Shaw and average package is something around 11 laks per annum 4. Taking considerations of students of all departments, almost 70 percent students get placed. 5. Presently my plan after getting degree is to get into a job.

Microtex, HCL, Wipro and many other IT companies gives us research projects and also their work as well. So, we basically have indirectly worked for them and the ones they feel can add more to their organization comes with a clear mind and take us with a package that we expect them to. So, placements are purely on performance as those who perform well are given best of placements.
