Course Curriculum Overview
I initially chose BTech. in Civil Engineering and changed to Mechanical in 2nd year. My main reason to choose this course was the reputation of the Institute and somewhat interest in the working of machines. Faculty: Student ratio is not clearly known to me but excluding TAs, it may be near 1:15. All the facilities are top class and have excellent knowledge in their field but the teaching of some of them may not be as good. Exams are usually a moderate level. These can be passed easily with just a day of study before exams.
Internships Opportunities
Companies and roles mentioned for placements are also relevant for the internships. Stipend initially offered is about 1.5L per month which decreases with time to 20k-30k. A maximum stipend is offered by Optiver (~10L per month). Companies conduct Aptitude and coding tests and shortlist candidates and final selections are made on the basis of interview.
Placement Experience
Students completing the 6th sem of BTech are eligible for placements. Companies in various sectors like IT/Software, Finance, Consult, Analytics, etc. visit. Most of these companies are open to every department. Software Companies like Microsoft, Google, Adobe, and Amazon, firms Accenture, Bain and Company, BCG, and banks like Axis Bank, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank etc. visit for hiring. No. of offers made are near 1300 which is higher than the no. of students sitting for placements since some students get multiple offers. Almost 95% of students get placed. The average package is near 20LPA. Jobs in all the above-mentioned profiles are offered. Also, companies like Tata Steel, Jaguar, and Bajaj visit for hiring in the Core Mechanical profile. I am planning to get a job in Analytics profile.
Fees and Financial Aid
Semester fees are 1,20,000. which includes 1,00,000 as tuition fee and others for Gymkhana fee, Hostel fee, electricity fee etc. and mess fees is 22,000?/sem. A fee may be hiked by 5-6% every year. Many types of scholarships are available like Vidyalaxmi Scholarship, and etc. Bank Loan facility is also available. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Adobe, etc. visit here. The median package offered is near 20LPA.
Campus Life
The annual Cultural fest known as Mood Indigo is also Asia's Largest Cultural fest, conducted in Dec-Jan. TechFest is also conducted during the same period, generally before Mood Indigo. Central Library has many books, almost every academic book you may need during your stay here. The reading room is available 24*7 here. Classrooms are of different types according to class size. The largest is LA having a capacity of 350 with the smallest being LT having a capacity of 40. Biometric attendance scanner is available in big classrooms. New SAC, Old SAC and Gymkhana ground are the centre spot for all the sports and cultural activities and you can find many like-minded people there. Various clubs are present for cultural activities like dance, music, dramatics, etc. There are various tech clubs like Maths and Physics Club, Web and Coding Club, Electronics and Robotics Club etc. Many Tech teams participate in competitions like Racing Team. Noncore clubs like Finance, Analytics and Consult clubs are also there.
Hostel Facilities
Generally, Hostel 15-16 are provided to 1st-year students. Then during the 2nd year, boys are allotted rooms in Hostel 2,3,5,6,9. Girls have the same hostel 15 during their stay. Double pairing is there for the first 3 years. Students are allotted a single room in their final year in Hostel 17,18. Rooms are not that big or luxurious but that doesn't even matter because you will spend a lot of your time outside the room doing various activities. The meal is quite good at the start of the semester but eventually quality decreases. The hostel will be allocated randomly to you by authorities. Hostel fees are included in semester fees. You have to pay the hostel fee even if you stay anywhere outside campus or your home is near.
Admission
You need to clear JEE Mains and JEE Advanced first. Rank in JEE Advanced should be under 1100 to get BTech. Mechanical for General Category. Reservations for females and other categories like SC, ST, OBC etc. are available and cutoffs of the same can be viewed on NTA's official website. You can also change your Branch from any other UG course in the same Institute to this by clearing the CPI cutoff which is nearly 8.7-8.8
