What Students Say?
Likes
- One of the best college in india in academics as well in extracurricular ( no doubt)
- Best place to train yourself, You'll meet people who are much smarter than you, you need to constantly push yourself
Dislikes
- Academics, if you think you can surpass all by studing a day night before exam, you may be wrong
- Placement - only some top cream layer of students grab extraordinary placements, but still better than any other college in India
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum varies from course to course and is decided by proffs Generally there is a midsem (30%) , a endsem(50%) and quizzes ( 4 quizzes 5% each) , again it may change a little bit according to proff. Teaching methods also vary from prof to prof, some prefer on blackboard while some on slides, some may also give recorded lectures .
Internships Opportunities
Internships are NOT mandatory to complete your b tech degree. There were plenty of opportunities for internships as well. These depends on branches as well .In computer science approx 80% had intership offers. In my branch ( chem) it was only around 50% still better than some lower branches . Interships are offered almost for all roles, if you need a good internship you need to start preparing from 2nd year
Placement Experience
Placement is one of the reason why students sacrifice their school days for a single exam. And if you get here you have done 80% of your job. Even if you're avg ( YOU NEED TO BE ATLEAST AVERAGE) out here you would land up with a job which is much better than jobs in private college. In 23-24 avg was 24 lpa approx and median was 18 lpa, around 75 % of students were placed. If you want to see more figures simply visit our placement website, it's all public
Fees and Financial Aid
Total fees- 1 lakh 42 thousand for not benefited Indians Tution fees For sc/st-0 rs For rest indians - 1lakh For outsiders - 2lakh Mess fees For sc/st-0 rs For rest- 23000 Other fees like hostel, sports facilities, electricity - 20000 approx ( changes from year to year)
Campus Life
I would guarantee these 4 years would be best 4 years of your life. There is very supportive environment here ( no ragging - really) . There are 2 main fests which are organised by our college, Asia's largest cultural fest and Asia's largest technical fest ( you could Google if you are interested enough else no point in knowing there names). There are several clubs which covers almost all things a student can do as hobby
Hostel Facilities
IITB is one of the oldest IITS so some hostels are very old, and rooms are very small if you compare to any other colleges. But 3 big hostels are unders construction and will be ready by 2026 . Meal quality depends on hostel to hostel, but overall not bad.
Admission
I got pretty good rank in jee advanced, and according to previous year trends i was sure i would land up here. But apart from here some of my options were ece in mechanical in kanpur, chemical in delhi and ece in roorkee .IITB chemical was my first priority and i got it easily. Admission process was very smooth, ( note: mine was complete online admission, I don't know about correct scenario)
Faculty
It depends on your perspective. If you really want to learn the subject, you got the best professors of india. They will help you in every possible way. But if you don't have interest in your course( you wanna just do coding like me) they may annoy you, passing here is not that easy as compared to other colleges, you can't get GOOD grades studing on last day, but you can pass
