Course Curriculum Overview
In Mechanical Engineering, core courses are easy to score. But some electives like CS or Statistics courses are harder. Endsem is every 6 months and mid-sem every 3 months. Exams are easy to pass if you attend all lectures and practice from reference books. The faculty-student ratio should be around 1:30.
Internships Opportunities
The are many internship opportunities provided by the campus placement team, which you can register for in your 2nd and 3rd years. Then there will be a test and interview per company criteria. Many corporate giants come to IIT Bombay to recruit in various fields. Apart from the campus placement team, you can also apply for an internship by directly emailing the company (or by some contacts in the company).
Placement Experience
Students in the 7th and 8th semesters are eligible for campus placements. And I can say that IIT Bombay campus placements are one of the highest placements in India. Students in the 2nd and 3rd years are eligible for internship opportunities provided by the placement team also. The percentage of students getting placed is also very high. Others opt for higher studies. I plan to get a job in my 7th semester in the Data Science profile.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are a little high for a government institute. But they are not changed after admission. Apart from this, many scholarships are also available, loans are also provided. Fee remission is also there for financially constrained families. Most students get placed in jobs and internships.
Campus Life
At IIT Bombay, you will be able to get exposure in any field you like, robotics, drama, acting, maths, chemistry, sports, and much more. There are clubs for most of the activities you like to do. Apart from clubs, the are many tech teams also, which many people are part of. Tech teams take part in various international competitions also.
Hostel Facilities
Although after 1st-year students are shifted to their parent hostel, it's also an amazing lifestyle. Parent hostels are old hostels in IIT Bombay, but they give the best hostel culture we can have. We also have a wing culture, which means in whichever hostel we go to, we will always have the same wingmates, they are like a family to us. Mess good is the best hostel food you can get. These hostels are allotted to you as soon as you take admitted to the institute.
Admission
I gave two exams, JEE MAINS and JEE ADVANCED. You have to be among 1500 students overall in India to secure a seat at IIT Bombay. I was 533 in OBC so I got B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay. JEE exams are after the 12th boards and forms come around August month. The admission process is governed by JOSAA. Two years of proper hard work is at least required to get admission here. Practice previous year's papers to improve the score in JEE exams.
