Course Curriculum Overview
I have some interest towards fluid mechanics and kinematics during my jee preparation and after getting selected at IIT Bombay in the mock round of counselling I was pretty sure that I would pursue my Btech here at IIT Bombay There are 220 students(including dual year students too) and there are around 40-50 professors in the Mechanical department of IIT Bombay but usually, in Btech course there would be sections divided of 70 per batch and one professor is allowed to each section for a theory course Most of the professors are experienced members and have vast knowledge of the subject you could say that almost every prof has completed his Mtech/PhD in a good reputation college like IITs, IISc, ..etc some did their PhD from foreign universities too If you attend classes regularly and have a healthy discussion with professors/TAs or even with your batchmates about the course would give you a better idea of it and you can easily ace the exams
Internships Opportunities
Companies - Jane Street, Optiver, BCG, Rubrik, Bane consultancy, Barclays, Sony, Samsung, Google, Microsoft, JLR, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, PnG, Adobe, HUL. there are many easily around 100 companies Aptitude test will be conducted by the companies first and then technical interviews/GDs/Assignment It is better if you have a CPI>7.0 so that you can clear the Resume filtering for sure
Placement Experience
For Btech/BS students they will have there placements in 7th and 8th semesters for dual year students it will be in the 9th semester Companies visited - Jane Street, Optiver, Rubrik, JLR, Bajaj Auto, Axxela, RBI, Adobe, Samsung, Google, Tata Steel, TCS, Sony, Barclays, Bane consultancy, BCG, PnG, HUL. I could go on and on for a rough Idea I would say around 100 companies come for campus placements The highest package would be around 4 crores
Fees and Financial Aid
It would cost around 1,40,000 per semester at IIT Bombay which includes tution fees(100k), Hostel fees(14k), Mess fees(22k) and Other facilities(4k) Based on the financial staus of your family there are Scholarships too If your parents/guardian's income is less than 5 Lacs per annum then you can apply for MCM(merit-cum-means for which you should have CPI>6.0) Named scholarship And other Scholarships sometimes the institute administration will remind you through emails if there are any new scholarships provided by them or even from other bodies
Campus Life
Annual fests Mood Indigo - Asia's largest cultural fest (I guess that's enough description I will leave the remaining to your imagination It is mostly conducted in December Techfest, E-Summit, Abhyuday fest are some other fests too There is a central library inside the institute where you can go and study on your own or you can take some books and there is also a policy to take a few books with you to your hostels Classrooms are well equipped including good ventilation and ACs Throughout the semester and also in vacation time there are sports and extracurricular activities going on you will find it hard to attend every event There are so many clubs at IIT B Technical clubs - Aeromodelling, Energy, ERC, Team Shunya, UMIC, IIT Bombay Racing....etc there are so many clubs that I could write for an hour writing all of them Cultural Clubs - NSS, Vaani, Symphony, Pixel, Style club, Comedy Cons....etc
Hostel Facilities
In the hostel the facilities are sufficient but you know you have to adjust in some areas Mess is good the quality might vary from hostel to hostel There is no process like registration you will be accommodated in a hostel in the first year and for the second year you will be given another hostel for the last year you will be shifted to another hostel which is a single room. You have to just pay the fees before the date to get registered for hostel facilities It is suggested to be in Hostel as it is an experience you will get once in a lifetime and there are many interactive activities going on in hostels and there will inter hostel competitions too
Admission
The admission exam needs to clear are JEE Mains + JEE Advanced First, you have to give JEE Mains conducted by NTA and you have to score more than 15% to be eligible for the JEE Advanced ( there would be individual subjects cut off too which may vary yearly) Then you have to give JEE Advanced conducted by IITs The application form will be available on the NTA website for JEE Mains and for JEE Advanced the IIT which is conducting it that year will have a website and you can apply there There are a certain number of seats given to reservations based on the institute capacity you can check those on the JoSAA website during your counselling time Improvement in the admission process - I would prefer students to take decisions carefully about the department they are going to select, rather than following the herd mentality and choosing CSE over others they should thoroughly research and make a decision
Other Applied Colleges
IIT Roorkee - Indian Institute of Technology - [IITR] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Electronics & Communication Engineering)
